Any chance that it could have been a local horror show? If you do a bit of research, you'll find many areas in the country have horror-themed movie presentations with their own hosts that only air in the areas surrounding a local city. Some also reach a national audience. A good example is Svengoolie which is on Me-TV if you get that as a subchannel in your area.noiseredux wrote:that's the problem - my memory is way too fuzzy. And I only saw one or two episodes. Heck, I don't have proof that this show lasted more than one or two episodes. Syndicated? No idea. No idea what channel it was on - which would help a lot as well. For all I know it was a channel that doesn't even exist anymore which complicates things.
What I can say is it must have been between 1992 and 1994 going by some pretty definite time-stamping in my memory.
I don't even remember what cable service we had back then (Southcoast, MA) , but I have a feeling it was pre-Comcast.

Ok, I can't find any proof that Pumpkinhead was on this, but I'm now starting to think that this was REEL Wild Video, a show on USA Network...

^this (kind of NSFW) blog post even talks about the creative censoring that I mentioned earlier!

I watched this! But this was later in the 90s. I think it's probably the best fit for what you had said.noiseredux wrote:Ok, I can't find any proof that Pumpkinhead was on this, but I'm now starting to think that this was REEL Wild Video, a show on USA Network...

Re: 80s & 90s TV Anthology Series (Sci-Fi, Horror, etc.)
I was reminded tonight of a very relevant to the times episode of Ray Bradbury Theater called "The Murderer" Ray Bradbury himself wrote this short story in 1953, way before much of this technology could even be conceived. In a future time period in which the world is surrounded by nothing but technology and electronic devices, a psychiatrist visits a mental patient who did not murder anybody in particular, but murdered a whole mess of machinery. In this time, people are hooked on technology. Computers, fax machines, video phones, anything that can keep people communicating with anybody, anywhere. This man has had enough of it and destroyed nearly everything that put out sound or video in his life. After his visit, it rubs off on the psychiatrist enough that being connected and in constant contact 24/7 is a lot worse than one could think.
Full episode is here. A very cautionary tale of life today, and this was brought up 60 years ago.
Factoid: The mental patient was played by Bruce Weitz of Hill Street Blues fame. He would also appear in The Twilight Zone episode The Mind of Simon Foster in 1989, which also took place in the future.

Re: 80s & 90s TV Anthology Series (Sci-Fi, Horror, etc.)
I recently came across another short-lived anthology series from the 80s called Darkroom. It was only on for one season in 1981 on ABC. Not much is known about it but it was hosted by James Coburn. Each episode had 2 or 3 stories.

Re: 80s & 90s TV Anthology Series (Sci-Fi, Horror, etc.)
I saw the Tales from The Darkside movie on Amazon tonight, it was rumored to be Creepshow 3 before that abomination was released about 10-15 years later. It featured an adaptation of Lot 249 by Arthur Conan Doyle and a treatment of Stephen King's Cat From Hell by George Romero. Really good special effects too for 1990. The 3 stories could have also stood alone as their own episodes.
I also found out that many of my favorite anthology series are completely on DVD! Tales From The Darkside, Monsters!, and the 1980s episodes of The Twilight Zone. Nice.

So now Tales of The Crypt is coming back later this year to TNT. I wonder how good it's going to be now that it's on basic cable.

Hey, since this thread has been necro-posted (for good reason), I thought I'd mention The Hunger, a series that showed up on one of those premium cable channels and should be on Netflix or Amazon or something at this point. 4 seasons of horror and nudity, with occasional David Bowie and even a Daniel Craig appearance.
