Weird, my tastes run opposite. Vesperia was alright (I liked that Yuri was pretty serious and not a sniveling wimp), but the combat just felt a little too halting for me. My favorite is Symphonia, because of the combo-happy nature of things, and Abyss, once I got rolling, ranks right up there too. Even if it isn't quite as smooth as Symphonia.

Of course, the gap between when I played the former versus the two latter might have something to do with it as well.

Either way, Tales games can be hit or miss. The ones I've actually finished are Phantasia, Destiny, Symphonia, Vesperia, and Legendia. That last one only sort-of, I didn't do all the character quests.

I started with Vesperia, and IMO, i like the combat the most. It just feels very fluid and really, really enjoyable to me. I actually have a lot of issues with Symphonia's combat (no free run, teammates can't use items automatically, overlimit is pretty worthless) I love both games, but I do like Vesperia more. But i see where your coming from, Symphonia is more combo based. :)

I played Abyss up to the manor where they kidnap that guy from the port, and than stopped. I just didn't enjoy it a lot. Maybe it's because i own the 3DS version and i'm not big on portables, but i didn't get the same feel that i got from Vesperia & Symphonia.

Yeah, if you ever get a chance, give the PS2 version a shot. I'll also say that Abyss is a bit more of a slow burn. It really takes time to get going, but I loved it when it did.

I've got to agree with that, Tales is very hit and miss. Some of it bored me just watching it so I never paid up. Surprised I forgot to mention Phantasia in my other post, did like that one but never could finish it, though I was stuck on the GBA port which has issues. If the price wasn't up there I'd pay for a warezy 'real' translated copy of it for the console itself.

Me but I've only played in detail Phantasia and Eternia.

I'll get to Graces, Xillia 1 & 2, and Symphonia all in good time.

I've got Phantasia, Symphonia and Xillia.

Loved Phantasia. Arche Klein is still my favorite Tales character.

Played Symphonia. Eh. It probably isn't much different from Phantasia, but Phantasia had a fresh and new combat system when it came out. Symphonia really just felt like retreading water, nothing really popped out and I got pretty bored pretty early on.

Still haven't played Xillia. My roommate did, but I don't remember him saying anything about it.

Last month, my sister ask me to play this game with her...I don't really remember which part it is, but the name may be " bla bla...Xillia" (I'm quite sure). In general, the gameplay is pretty challenging and fun. If I have time, I'll enjoy other parts. Oh, can anyone tell me exactly how many versions of this game?

Played only symphony and loved. Once I played the spin-off Tales of VS and was boring.
