Her family are used to me being that guy. No it's not all my fault either.
Bring things to do that are active and wear people out. That means less time at the beach and more fun.
Thanks for the advice. I totally agree with you about being active. I'd love to play active games on the beach or surf or scuba dive even. Trouble is, only myself and fiancee are the active ones. Her family likes to sit around and drink wine and beer and mixed drinks, and have extremely shallow discussions and inside jokes that reference past events I was not privy to. Since I have no connection to most of the discussion (and hate small talk) I just sit there and be bored out of my skull. I also do not drink alcohol, so I'm not even on that level with them.

I usually play board games with my fiancee's 11 year old cousin if I'm not off in some room on a mobile gaming device. It's not like I dislike her family, they're good people, but they bore the hell out of me. Spending a week doing that is not something I'm gonna do. I'll just go on my own adventures while they sit around in the sun and laugh about shit that happened ten years ago.

Fishing for Northern Pike + Boat + Wisconsin = Happy Luke

I'm not an ocean duder. I cringe at the thought of going into a pool.

I do however love the movie AIRBORNE, which is all about being lazy and surfing rad waves.

I don't think there are any aquariums on the keys - there are 2 glass bottom boats that take you out near Dry Tortuga where you can see some fish but it isn't amazing by any stretch. Key West is incredibly small - all of them are. There are decent restaurants but surprisingly most of the beaches are not that great and those that are - are packed. You will not relax on a beach on Key West. IMO the best beach is Bahia Honda which is near Spanish Harbor Key. It's large and not terribly crowded.

I don't know if it's still the case but the times i've been there it was littered with cats...like hundreds, maybe thousands of stray cats...everywhere.

It is isn't even if it isn't.

Does that make sense? You are marrying into the family, so no matter what it is a two-way street. Step in when needed, if not, screw it. It's not worth your frustration or worry.

Like planning a wedding, let it flow and only chime in when you are asked to. Makes life so much easier. That's my advice, but I'm also a super lucky guy so who knows?

Real Talk: It doesn't matter if your in-laws like you or not, they will accept you. Even if it's "That's just the way he is", they'll like you. But if you distance yourself they'll probably think you're a creep-o. Even if their lame buttheads that you don't agree with, engage. Don't be the "I don't wanna" guy.

There is one in the Discovery Center, but it's nothing to write home about. Don't get me wrong, it's nice, but it's all about the local ecology, so if you go in hoping for a bazillion colorful fish you're going to be disappointed.

Exhuminator, I hope you like plants, because I think your best bets are going to be the Butterfly and Nature Conservatory, Nancy Forrester's Secret Garden and the Key West Garden Club. All are beautiful and the latter (a converted Civil War fort) would be the perfect place for a picnic with your lady friend if you can manage to drag her away from her family for a couple hours.

There's also the Ernest Hemingway Museum and the Maritime Museum if you're into those sorts of things. I'd also recommend Mallory Square and Duval Street if you find yourself just wanting to take a colorful stroll.

And I agree with mjmjr25 about Tortuga. Depending on your tastes, it's probably not worth it.

Oh yes, there are cats. Many, many cats.... and chickens. Can't forget about the chickens.

Nah they're cool with me, I'm not a black sheep or anything. They've come to understand I'm not about the sit around and chit chat for hours stuff. So when I wander off to find my own fun it's no mystery. I appreciate your advice though.

Really though, the beach. Just not a fan of the beach. Give me forests, mountains, and a nice lake and I'm a happy man.

Those two sound like something I could get into, thanks for the heads up.

Cool deal.

The way I see it is that if it makes my wife happy, I'll do it. I know she puts up with my family when they visit (which involves dozens of hours of shopping) so I can deal with a few hours of Rummicube with her Mom.

Sardines.
Spinach would be a great start. From that website sautèd spinach in coconut oil with nutritional yeast would cover a lot of what sardines have plus much more. Or you could make a tofu based dressing and pour on raw spinach. Tofu spinach scamble with tahini dressing. Vitiman D is the only big thing missing but going out in the sun for 15 minutes can make that up. Mercury (though admittedly one of the lowest content in fish) and BPA cans are the biggest risks with sardines so you can't eat it as constantly as spinach of which ecoli is the greatest risk. 15 seconds at 160 F takes care of that though.
Luke wrote: Canned tuna.
Tuna is like a worse version of sardines. The mercury content is much worse. Eating it every day is not a good idea or even every other day.
