What America needs is to stop consuming 3,500 calories a day when they don't do anything but sit. You don't need to be eating fast food more than once per week, you don't need cheese, butter, or bacon with every meal, you don't need to drink soda as anything but an occasional treat, and you don't need ice cream, cake, or any other dessert as anything but a treat for special occasions. And candy (except chocolate) should probably just go away entirely.

Or just start working out. I eat over 3,000 calories a day, and I only go to the gym for 30 minutes each day. Somehow that works out for me.

Japanese convenience stores have plenty of healthy food, which is part of why I'm in the 7/11 off base much more frequently than the US-ran gas station on base. They've got rice rolls, grilled meat, fruits, vegetables, curry, seafood snacks, boiled eggs, and most of the teas in the drink fridge are unsweetened. The possibility is already there, Americans would just rather eat candy and greasy crap.

Fat acceptance is accepting setting up yourself for disease and more that tends to come with it(especially not taking care of yourself). Part of the problem is though that fast food(which I know i'm guilty of eating a little much of sometimes) is always the first thing people think of instead of cooking(and not even attempting the healthy options these places offer is another thing).
Study after study proves you wrong and Luke right (dammit, I hate having to type "Luke right"). It's not that there aren't places like Aldi that sell cheaper groceries. It's that a great many low-income people live in what are being called food deserts, where there aren't any Aldis within walking distance.
Offers on food in supermarkets generally focus on the type of food where you will go 'oh go on then' instead of the ones you'll probably either buy or not buy either way

Buy 1 get 1 free, half price offers and more tend to be on pop, sweets, biscuits, bacon, pizza, cheese. They are much more rarely on fruit and veg. This is especially true if you can't access a major supermarket - if Coca-Cola or KitKat have a price reduction, it's often printed on the wrapper and available nationwide. If a supermarket has an offer on fruit, it's normally local to that one supermarket, or perhaps your region or that supermarket chain. If you don't have access to the big supermarkets, there probably won't be many offers on frash produce. And I don't know about the US, but here in the UK, a lot of the biggest supermarkets are outside of town, and require you to drive to them - which isn't going to be an affordable option to some poorer families.

And, if you have one source of income coming in once a month, and you need to control it very tightly, then perhaps you would only go shopping once or twice a month. Fresh fruit and veg isn't going to last, but that buy 1 get 1 free microwave pizza sure will. That will last forever. Another reason why it's more appealing - you don't have to throw it away if you leave it too long.

There's plenty of reasons why obesity tends to correlate with low income, but the crux of it is that fruits and vegetables aren't as cheap, readily available or long lasting as crappy junk food.

I knew the answer already.
I had no way of knowing if you did or didn't. Rhetorical questions don't work well in plain text, unless you make an effort to visually show that the question is rhetorical.

That joke is not even close to funny.
That joke is from the American version of the tv THE OFFICE, and it is hilarious.

It's a fact we all have to live with sometimes. You and my wife would get along well.

I go to the dollar tree every Tuesday for a few reasons:

Batteries (eight AA's for a buck)
Antiperspirant (all types for a buck)
Fresh Natures Own Whole Wheat bread (there's a pattern here, for a buck)
4 Pack of sponges
4 pack of toothbrushes (approved and recommended by the ADA)
Gag gifts for weekly parties

And every time I go I see an obese person doing their grocery shopping. A cart full of frozen nastiness that has to be half trans fat. Also, I believe that restrictions on WIC items needs a new referendum. Carts full of Pepsi and Totinos's pizza should not be allowed in any state.

Smile: Bought new pillows and bed sheets. I'm already ready to go to bed. For me it's almost like getting a new car. Refreshing, new, clean, and fun to be in/on.

If you spent more than a dollar on your batteries and deodorant you wouldn't need to replace them every Tuesday.

You would be surprised at the brands Dollar Tree caries. I always get my batteries Dollar General though their batteries aren't the best ever but you get around 4-5x as many batteries as name brands like Duracell for the price so they end up lasting longer even if your having to swap them out more often.

I am a fan of rechargeable batteries, especially the Eneloop brand:

I have used them in my Wii and 360 wireless controllers for years with great success. If you are going through a lot of AAs like I was, these are a much more economical long term solution.

They're great for buying 20oz sodas too. At Dollar Tree they $1, of course, but you can't find them for less than $1.49 anywhere else.

Nuts and seeds are a good purchase there too. Heck, just about any food, really.
