Gritty can also be very nitpicky about details. In gritty stuff it's usually very easy to die, and the tone is usually very grim and serious. There's little levity that isn't simply black humor. It can be depressing and oppressive if not done very carefully.

Well, put it like this. In one game I ran, players came across an apple tree. They plucked a few apples for food to take with them, and one decided it would be a good idea to try one. Only when she bit into it, she discovered instead of seeds, it contained human teeth.

Being rundown by packs of hungry wolves. Whole villages attacked by swarms of birds. Crucified zombies still squirming as the crows eat them. Deals with hags. The skeletal remains of sailors wading ashore to attack fishing villages. Vanishing lights in empty cottages. Footsteps that mysteriously appear and disappear. Players waking to find teeth marks on their arms and legs but no wounds and no sign of anything having been in their camp. Oncoming armies and hordes that pillage and raze the land. Angry mobs. Lots and lots of undead. That's the kind of thing I like, so that's the kind of thing I put in my campaigns.

Yeah, you can have a dark game that can be exciting and fun. As long as people enjoy themselves, the tone doesn't really matter. I think group chemistry is a big part of that!

My husband dug out some of his V:tM clan books for me. Been skimming.

If this Analog RPG happens, he might consider joining. I told him he was allowed as per the rules, since he technically has a Racketboy account. He's just never gotten around to posting.

Sorry, I'm in the process of transitioning into a new job. And we haven't had any volunteer GMs. I definitely won't have time in the next month or so, but after that I might be willing to take up the mantle.

I'd love to participate, but I just don't have the time. This is a big part of the reason why I don't have a local game going either, I just don't have the time to do this anymore.

@Ack I saw some dislike for 4th edition D&D. I am curious to know why people disliked it so much? I enjoyed it a lot and the problems that I heard from people were complaints that I personally did not experience.
