I understand that is what you believe. And I am not offended that you believe it. Try not to be offended then that I believe something else.mjmjr25 wrote:There is more tangible evidence of your creator than in any number of obesity studies.

I'm a Christian but this statement is one of false dichotomymjmjr25 wrote: Because you choose to deny or "not perceive" something does not make it imperceptible or imagination. There is more tangible evidence of your creator than in any number of obesity studies.

See, and I think that's great. You're an active guy and you like keeping busy and you're gregarious so you invite all your buddies to whatever stuff you do. And they come if they want and they don't come if they don't want. The fact that this can cause your less active friends to be more active is a bonus. You're obviously not throwing these things for the express purpose of getting your less active friends more healthy.Luke wrote:Here's my thing...MrPopo wrote: You have some aspect of your life that's important to you and you're trying to convince someone else to make it important to them, whether they want to or not.
I don't try to convince my friends of anything. Sure, I make suggestions like "Wanna go for a bike ride?", or, "Let's toss around the ball. I have mitts for everyone", and "I'd love to try out my new croquet set, you down for being up?".
It has nothing to do with trying to convince someone to do something, it's that I keep on providing fun opportunities for them to DO something.
This is one reason I hold a lot of themed parties. Love giving people the option of doing stuff other than sitting around. Sitting around can be terrible (being a dude at a bridal shower) and it can be fun (being a dude getting a lap dance) but trying to get people to be active isn't really trying to convince them of anything.
It's the original sentiment that Ziggy posted that rankles me. I don't have a problem with you not wanting to be fat, or not finding fat people visually appealing, or things of that nature. But the second you start saying that fat people need to better themselves then you've crossed the line. That's none of your business; it's between the person and their physician.

If that's a road you want to go down we can talk about the legion of people who shouldn't be having kids for a variety of socioeconomic factors and the burden it creates on the rest of the populace.prfsnl_gmr wrote:My insurance premiums and taxes do pay their increased healthcare costs...MrPopo wrote:But the second you start saying that fat people need to better themselves then you've crossed the line. I, personally, have no problem telling other people when they shouldn't have children. (In fact, I am much more likely to condemn someone's ill-informed, irresponsible, or selfish decision to have children than I am to condemn someone's decision to engage in various unhealthy behaviors that lead to obesity.)MrPopo wrote:If that's a road you want to go down we can talk about the legion of people who shouldn't be having kids for a variety of socioeconomic factors and the burden it creates on the rest of the populace.

Agreed.MrPopo wrote:You and I should hang out more.
EDIT: I certainly do not condone any sort of eugenics, but there are certain times in peoples' lives when, for a variety of reasons, they should not choose to have children. That is, if someone is emotionally and financially unprepared to support a child, he or she should not have one. Electing otherwise is a irresponsible and selfish decision that does not properly take into account its effects on both society, and much more importantly, the child born to a parent unprepared to care for it.

I'm fairly certain that if humans laid external eggs the species would have gone extinct by now.prfsnl_gmr wrote:the child born to a parent unprepared to care for it
