A Link to the Past Player's Choice
A Link to the Past Player's Choice
My friend sold me his SNES with some games, and he only wants to give me one of his copies of A Link to the Past. Is the original ALTTP SNES cartridge worth more than the Player's Choice cartridge or vice versa?
Re: A Link to the Past Player's Choice
(im not exactly sure so dont quote me on it untill i get some backup) yes and no. if you don't already know most games come out before a players choice print. if a game becomes a best seller and the demand is high for new copies the company will make a new batch of these games with the label "players choice" this is a way of trying to get others to buy this game. to some people having the original copy of a game is worth abit more. this is all based on the eye of the beholder....if your a person looking to just play it then it shouldn't matter in at all. if your a person who is a major collector then you might want the harder one to find (in this case the normal print). but in general online the greatest hits fetch for a lower price.

Re: A Link to the Past Player's Choice
I figured this but I couldn't count out the possibility that maybe there were less copies of the Player's Choice version made, making it rarer. I'm sure it's possible. I'll say this: the Player's Choice version label looks a little cooler, but no matter what system it is, I will always rather have the original rather than a Player's Choice/Greatest Hits game.
Re: A Link to the Past Player's Choice
Sadly it doesn't usually work that way. For it to achieve players choice/greatest hits/platinum etc it has to have sold x amount of copies so there is already plenty of copies of that game in circulation anyway. When it comes to a high selling game going up in price it's because of demand for collectors. Most of the time games from a long running series go up in price when a new one comes out. Either due to nostalgia or catch-up. These people buying these games tend to be collectors more than anything and will much prefer the original over the cut-price re-issue. I don't know why collectors have this mentality, but I know when I'm looking for a used game I hate buying re-issues. They just don't seem to have as much perceived value as the original.
Another reason re-issues aren't as popular is because they invariably have different packaging to normal games. This just looks untidy in a collection. I hate seeing rows and rows of black labels and then have a stupid silver one sticking out. It just looks awful and makes me feel cheap for buying the re-issue instead of the original. Suffice to say I've only ever made that mistake a few times and have multiple copies of certain titles.
