The inXile guys started the Torment KS before Wasteland 2 was out and then Bard's Tale IV before Torment is out. They made a point of explaining why they were doing such a thing specifically because of the concerns you're raising. From a resource perspective it makes sense to start the next project before the first project is finished; not every position has a role throughout the development of a single game. So you either need to pipeline your work so that you keep everyone busy or go through cycles of hiring and firing (which is miserable for everyone).

The wii u version has a big synopsis of the other 2 games and asks you the big decisions that shape the game. If you are not playing on the wii u then you need to play the first two. Still think playing the first two would be a good idea.
Okay that's good to know since that is the version I was thinking of getting.

I wouldn't myself. ME3 starts kind of in media res and a lot of the story points will be close to meaningless for someone unfamiliar with the previous games. You might also get a nasty shock should you want to go back to Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2 by how differently (read: worse) the combat feels.

To be sure you'd have a good time though as ME3 is still a blast gameplay wise. It's just you might spend a lot of time being confused and disconnected from a decent amount of the story and it is a very story driven series.
Looks like the Wii U version will at least attempt to bring me up to speed. I'm more of a gameplay kind of guy anyways. Still will think about it. I'd have to play the first two on PC.

Thanks for the input guys.

Now that I think about it, there are only 6 fighting games for the NTSC-U SNES that I have not beaten. Wouldn't that be a cool trick to pull off?

That's ok, Ultimate Fighter is a beat 'em up with a VS fighter mode, like Turtles in Time.

But I've actually beaten it. In fact, I've beaten ever game on that list...

Best of the Best: Championship Karate
Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story
King of the Monsters
King of the Monsters 2
Mortal Kombat 3
Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3

Yeah, I know. Two MKs, two KotMs that I find questionably between fighters and wrestling games, and two oddballs.

An action RPG based on the Mega Man universe but with a completely different storyline and approach from both the original series and the X series. It was Capcom branching out and experimenting. It's cutesy, but I found it a lot of fun.
