Re: Comfort Games
Super Mario Bros. 3
Super Mario 64
Super Mario World
Yoshi's Island
Chrono Trigger
Super Metroid
Uncharted
Uncharted 2
Borderlands 2
Contra
Batman (NES)
Sonic the Hedgehog 2
... I mean it keeps going.
These are just the games that have burrowed into my brain and won't get out. I play them every once in awhile even if I'm not planning on beating them again.
Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario World, and Yoshi's Island are probably my bread and butter comfort games. I just play those all the time for whatever reason. I find excuses to put Mario World in.

Re: Comfort Games
No one is going to mention Tetris? I thought that was comfort to everyone.
But I also love several of the typical choices, most already mentioned:
And few dozen others. Really, there are just a bunch of core favorites that I will always come back to because they are fun, full of good memories, and just never get old.
Sometimes I think that comfort games are all I really play anymore.

...just another lost soul...
Re: Comfort Games
I'm going to list games that provide comfort for me, in the true definition of the word of giving ease or relaxation:
Ecco Defender of the future Dreamcast
Endless Ocean: Wii
The Duel : Genesis
Vectorman: Genesis
Pilotwings: Snes
Sim City: Snes
El Shaddia: 360
Mario Superstar Baseball: GCN
Starfox: Snes
The Sims: PC
...and every Toejam & Earl game
Plus the water levels in DK Country and the Starlight Zone in Sonic. Those levels almost put me in a trance.

I actually just recently sat down with the snes game. I put in the money cheat and just built a metropolis. Cms games are usually pretty fun and laid back.
This is for him but really everyone, GO HERE!

This guide has been online over a decade and it's pure awesome. In recent years people found yet a new code for the game, it's a total debug that's far better than the cash only cheat he spoke of. Bookmarked it years ago, lost it, found it a year or two back again...you should copy or bookmark that too.
Sim City really is the most relaxing thing on the system.
