I also used to go full Napoleon Dynamite practicing my best moves out in the driveway with a boombox blaring the MK movie soundtrack behind me.

I was a weird kid.
you still are.

The GG port of MK2 was so good.

Ha, that is awesome.

My first MK game was the Tiger Handheld. I just wanted SOME mk game so bad. I actually played the shit out of it.

When I finally took home that UMK3 cart, hot damn. I somehow knew every fatality. Vividly remember taking a shit when my neighbor friend comes over, shouts through the door that he needs to know one of Cyrax's fatality, and I shouted it back to him. Dad gave me a lot of grief over knowing that, but not caring about school. Good times.

Man, I remember when the local Hills got a MK 2 cab in their lobby. I swear more people went to play that than actually going in to shop.

I have a similar memory of a friend making a Mortal Kombat club, and I had to hide it from my parents when I was ten years old. I mentioned liking the game to my mother once, and she got upset over the name and that "you could hit a woman" in it. I did eventually manage to get a copy of the SNES port of the first game. It lacked all the blood and guts, but it was the only way I was going to get to play it, so I was never actually too upset about the censorship.

And then I remember Mortal Kombat Trilogy on the N64, because it was one of the multiplayer games my friends and I would play in middle school. A buddy had his 13th birthday party in 1998, and we stayed up all night playing tournaments in MKT and Mario Kart 64 battle mode. I also remember after my parents got divorced, my dad moved away and then back to a big house nearby with a new wife. My brothers and I would be up all night playing on both the N64 and the PS1, and one of the N64 games we had was MKT. Whenever I think of that house, I think of the colors of the N64 controller and the click of buttons in a darkened room and the variety of games I got to play. Also staying up late to watch anime on Scifi Channel and Monstervision on TNT.

Those were days of glory.

I played the original Mortal Kombat in the arcade when it came out, and I thought it was pretty cool. But I didn't fall in love with the series until I bought the SNES version of Mortal Kombat II in October of 1994. Having the game at home let me get deep into its mechanics (and learn the fatalities). It was an amazing game at that time and I spent a whole weekend playing it like crazy with a high school friend.

However after MK II, I found MK III didn't hold the same appeal for me. I'm not really sure why honestly. MK III is not a bad game at all, but I guess it wasn't as innovative and evolved as I hoped it would be. And after MK III the series just seemed to get worse and worse. The N64 and PS1 games in the series are abysmal. The PS2/Wii/Xbox era of MK was "OK", but nothing stellar. But the series really raised like a phoenix from its own ashes with the awesome 2011 reboot redundantly named Mortal Kombat. That game is fan-damn-tastic. I'm still waiting on Mortal Kombat X to release on 360... to be or not to be.

I played MK on Genesis, then Sega CD. Had MK2 on SNES and GG. MK3 I borrowed from a friend on PS1 back in the day, but never bought my own. Skipped Trilogy and 4. Played Deception and Armageddon on PS2 and liked them. Didn't love them. I enjoyed MK9, and Injustice.

I'll make this a "MK Month" (when I can find time away from Pillars Of Eternity)...

I've got MK1, 2, 3, 9 and Injustice on Steam. So I'll play those. 1-3 are the arcade ports, not the original PC versions. Maybe this month will convince me to buy MKX if I can find a good price. I'll also use this as an excuse to watch the movies. Oh and my wife has some MK soundtracks I can listen to haha.

Hell yeah, chief! I played a bunch of Deadly Alliance, Deception, and Armageddon through college. Toss in some Shaolin Monks, and you've got a winner!

I remember the first time I ever heard about Mortal Kombat. It'd been in arcades for about 6 months, and the playground had rumblings. Couple dudes I knew were talking about who their favorite fighters were. (I believe they settled on Johnny Cage due to nut punch).

I got the Game on Genesis soon after and might have been borderline obsessed with the series through the release of MK4. Possibly.

I have the N64 copy of Trilogy, I'll have to go get my ass kicked in it a bit.

I've always loved Mortal Kombat. I used to play the original arcade at the bowling alley my parents frequented. I eventually got my dad to buy me a copy of the Game Gear version, which was surprisingly good.

I lost that cartridge during a move many years ago. I'm still bummed about it.

Love the series though. The only main game I haven't spent any time with is MK vs. DC. Probably ought to pick that up one of these days.

Anyway, I don't actually have a copy of Trilogy, but I might pick one up. I do have various versions of 1 - Ultimate though, so I'll have a go later.

Also, Johnny Cage for life. Bitches.
