WELL THIS IS INTERESTING.. Retron 5
Re: WELL THIS IS INTERESTING.. Retron 5
I'd roll back on an issue like that. I didn't have anymore random shutoff issues once I went back to 2.0.

Good for you, now you realize what I was talking about when I noted the differences and how solid and reliable it appeared to be so far. They really did work the bad design bugs out of it and the only question left really time only can answer--durability.BoneSnapDeez wrote:Well I got the revised model today..... This thing is about 100 times better than what I had been playing.
Exedexes - They put another update out? I can't recall the last time I put something new in it. I do recall when I used to talk to my friend there they were having to make builds that would work on both, but it wouldn't surprise me in beta if the older out of print system may have issues more than the in production system (which would be a shame.)
Thierry, just feel I have to ask the duh question here, but did you ever setup the buttons for that? The menu is kind of lame and confusing because it doesn't carry over the buttons between the simulated controller nor the system it's tied to. Basically if you tell it it's a SNES pad and use it on SNES, it won't behave right on the NES if I recall without selecting that. I think it's stupid design, it should auto-detect but I don't think it does that. I just keep an ascii snes pad handy and use it to avoid the garbage.
EDIT: Just realized I hadn't flashed this in a LONG time, when did 2.0beta6 pop up? I know I ignored an update or two after that because they took out the fast loading for Sega support which bugged me.

2.0 BETA 6 (the best version of all!) was released September 18, 2014. Link to it here.
Which is useful just in case anyone wants it, it's still here.
New version is 2.3 BETA 2 available here. It brings back fast cartridge loading, but again on some Gen 1 units it might cause random power outages, it happened to me.

Well if it's solid for those on their final model that works now I am good with that as there's no impact. I should really try and start using it again, hell the tv on the whole for games (retron and ps4.) I just don't. The 3DS, the Gameboys, and the tablet and laptop are more than enough.
It was cool seeing Super Mario Land 2 blown up to full screen in its blocky crisp glory. I think I hit a bug though, I have select+direction setup for menu, reset, states and it wouldn't work, it was on the start button. I checked the configuration, it was right.

Re: WELL THIS IS INTERESTING.. Retron 5
I thought I felt some input lag when I first stated using my Retron 5, and I decided to test it with a run through Ninja Gaiden. (That is, if I could beat the game on the Retron 5, any input lag was negligible.) I finished the game yesterday, but since my kids were getting bored watching my play through Level 6 over and over again, I ended up using save states to get past the Jaquio. (I don't have any trouble with the bosses before and after him, but he has always given me fits.) In any event, I am satisfied. If I can get through that game on my Retron 5, any input lag is insignificant enough for me to get through just about anything.

I strangely feel it significantly more on certain titles than others. I can't tell at all on Mario 3 for NES, but notice it a lot on Super Mario World for SNES. No idea why. Only game that I can't finish because of it so far is NES Punch-Out!! (haven't tried SNES Super Punch-Out!! yet). Those random Tyson uppercuts are just too tough to dodge without instantaneous feedback on the controller. My TV is rated for 31ms or so of input lag (a "great" rating according to displaylag.com), but I'm looking at buying a new TV that's in the low 20's. Hopefully that improves things a bit. Tanooki has said over and over that the Retron tech said there is no lag from the Retron itself, and it's all on your individual TV. That may be true, but I SWEAR something is off with Super Mario World.prfsnl_gmr wrote:I thought I felt some input lag when I first stated using my Retron 5, and I decided to test it with a run through Ninja Gaiden. I'm probably wrong though.

I'm using mine on an HD CRT; so, I can play my original console in their native resolution without any input lag. The TV only has so many inputs, however, and the Retron really saves me a lot of space under it. If there is any imput lag associated with the Retron 5, it is short enough that I can still beat Ninja Gaiden (nearly a decade after my last attempt...which is good enough for me).DonSilvestre wrote:Tanooki has said over and over that the Retron tech said there is no lag from the Retron itself, and it's all on your individual TV. Yeah I get that, that's why I love the Retron so much. Playing with original controllers makes such a huge difference to me. I don't have room for a CRT setup alongside my HD home theater, and the save states (though I never cheat with them, only use them to stop a game and pickup and play later) are a lifesaver for this dad of a two year old with a newborn on the way in 5 weeks or less.prfsnl_gmr wrote:I'm using mine on an HD CRT; so, I can play my original console in their native resolution without any input lag. I don't have room for a CRT anymore, that Sharp is where my Gold Ball pinball machine is now. I do have one in the closet that supposedly was having issues with DVDs for my wife but I couldn't pitch the little thing. Either I'll fire up the N64 on it at some rate or let it go, but they do eat up even at the 20" size too much room.
As I had it explained, if you play with a stock controller, you shouldn't be feeling lag, that it will come down to the response time the LCD/LED has such as listed on displaylag.com. Being under 30ms supposedly will get you where should in theory shouldn't have an issue, but I imagine some people are just more twitchy about it than others. I've heard nothing about Ninja Gaiden (any) being a problem, but Punchout gets called out a lot especially just with Tyson. Sometimes I wonder if it's people making excuses/being rusty or if it really is the lag of the TV as he's a complete douchebag on the timing. They did take it a bit far having him as the extra last fighter on his own there at the end. He's like an unlockable before those things existed where it's plausible to win but it'll screw with you a lot.

Although I originally attributed some of my deaths in Ninja Gaiden to input lag, I think that this was actually the correct diagnosis...Tanooki wrote:Sometimes I wonder if it's people making excuses/being rusty
