I was quite happy exploring the world of Wizardry 8 and killing Swallowers without using a single spell when suddenly the game decided I was having it too easy and that it was time for another beating. In half an hour all this happened:
1) I fought against flying snakes, got one of my characters killed and was forced to flee without exploring the area.
2) Ran into Nightmares, which seemed scary so I ran.
3) I checked and discovered the place I wanted to visit is actually very far away so I started to backtrack. Met a bunch of alien-looking dudes who hit for 20 damage to the whole party at range and casted insanity. Woops!
So yeah, this game is scary and I'm now on the run. Let's come back to the Swamp and nearby areas when I get some more experience.

Re: RPG Progress Report
I'm really enjoying it more and more the more time I spent with it. When I started I thought I was going to abandon it after the first dungeon, now I want to play the whole saga.MrPopo wrote:That's the Wizardry I know.

It's the Four Job Fiesta! I'll be doing as many runs as I can between now and the end as a personal challenge, and each one will be a Chaos run (normally you get a random job of each crystal, random is you get rolled 1-20 four times and then its sorted by crystal so you get all wind jobs before all water jobs before all fire jobs before all earth jobs).
Just reached the second world in my first run and completed the Big Bridge segment. Gilgabot rolled me Monk, Blue Mage, Ninja, and Samurai. So the rest of the game is going to be easysauce and I'll take on Shinryuu.

Re: RPG Progress Report
Is Shinryuu supposed to be harder than Omega? I remember reading that, but I found him much easier (Some weapon he is weak to drops near him or something? Its been a while)
I think I might do a Four Job Fiesta run this year, I was very tempted last year.

Re: RPG Progress Report
I finally healed myself up and started exploring some of the earlier areas I miossed.
I met the Umpani, which are one of the factions you can take quests from. Sadly, their quests are related to those of the D'rang and both camps are quite far away from each other. There's supposedly a teleporter to cut down the travel time but I haven't found it yet.
I also decided to explore the northernmost part of the map, which was guarded by a surprisingly weak golem. But the faeries there are tough and I decided to come back and do some missions before going there.

Shinryuu is easier than Omega. I think he might pump out more raw damage than Omega but Omega has such fantastic defensive abilities that you need to have some really specific things to beat him. Shinryuu is vulnerable to Berserk, so as long as you can inflict that it then comes down to surviving someone who can toss out huge damage physical attacks with a high speed stat who can be blinded (though that pretty much requires a Chemist because of his absurd magic evade; berserk is an auto hit spell).dunpeal2064 wrote:Is Shinryuu supposed to be harder than Omega? Omega, on the other hand, starts off with a ridiculous set of defensive stats. He's got 190 physical defense and 150 magic defense and is auto shell and reflect and absorbs all elements except bolt (weakness). This means to even touch him you need to either use spellblade, axes (defense piercing), bounce magic off your own reflect, meteo/summons (though outside Ramuh you need to deal with that 150 magic defense), or get lucky crits with barefist/katanas. Then add in the fact that he counters every attack with two counter attacks in addition to his normal series of deadly attacks.
Of course, if you get a Bard you just put Sing on a couple of characters and perma stun him while you figure out some way to deal damage.

Re: RPG Progress Report
First run down. Shinryuu consisted of putting Equip Katana on my Blue Mage and giving him the Masamune and Image on everyone else and giving them their best equipment. Blue Mage goes first and uses his primed Wonder Rod to Berserk Shinryuu. The other three Image and keep refreshing it as they lose a shadow so I never ran the risk of those three dying. My Blue Mage got horribly killed shortly thereafter but at that point victory was inevitable.
Exdeath went bog standard. Used all my single target throws to get past phase 1, Magic Lamp the back, Big Guard, focused on the Grand Cross part, then multitarget damage to wear down the other two parts.
Now I gotta wait for Gilgabot to process the victory so I can register again.

Re: RPG Progress Report
Played through Dragon Quest (Warrior) I on the GBC this weekend using my Gamecube GBA Player. It was fun to run through a classic quickly with my 5 year old son, it was the first time both of us have played it
It was also cool to be able to play it on the tv and continue it in the GBA SP on the go. We both had a blast and will be starting DQ II asap.
Need Hexyz Force and Class of Heroes 2 for a complete PSP RPG Set.....let me know your price!!!!
Re: RPG Progress Report
Sad face; I need to grind... a lot. I unfortunately do not have the damage output or the protection I need for Neo Exdeath. In my current party the only character who survives Almagest is my Berserker, which is not a recipe for success. And I don't have the damage output to be able to kill that part before the first Almagest. It seems I have a night of grinding ahead of me tomorrow; in about 115 battles I should have enough HP on everyone. That'll also give me a cash infusion I can spend on more Elixers and Pinwheels.
Rather disappointed that I've road blocked like this. Looking back over previous runs I always had either a Blue Mage (Big Guard), a Chemist (series of buffs for super damage), or a Bard (same thing). The only run where I didn't I had a Mystic Knight which let me instant kill the Almagest part with Break Blade at the start.
