Been somewhat stuck in a rut lately with gaming for the past year :(

Anywho, I quite recently purchased a copy of Scud for my Sega Saturn. What a Bizarre game? Its like mixture of a run and gun with mild platforming but it also has rail shooter lightgun elements/segments so it actually makes use of the Sega Stunner gun (i don't have one). Don't know I how feel about this game. I like some of the visuals, designs and strange soundtrack. But gameplay feels somewhat mediocre. I got stuck in Stage 3 I believe.

So I started playing other games on my Saturn like Galactic Attack which I recently acquired. I really like playing this game. Also playing XVs.SF (why not!?) and Fighter's History Dynamite. Both are solid ports of 2D fighting fun.

Gonna look for my copy of Thunderforce, Nights and Sega Touring Car along with a 3D controller (which I have more than enough around my room).

Hopefully its enough to get me back into feeling some enthusiasm for playing video games once again.

Could I just be getting old? I'm turning 31 this year.

I don't think age has anything to do with enjoyment of the medium. I'm 36 and I'm into video games now just as much as I was at 26 or 16. If gaming is feeling stale for you, I suggest mixing up the platforms and genres that you're playing in a more diverse fashion.

Then it must be something else entirely perhaps. I find your words encouraging. Thank you.

That was a great article. Could not agree more about the co-op gaming with a significant other bit, there really is nothing like it. Our recent playthrough of Adventures of Cookies and Cream was one of my favorite gaming moments ever. The thoughtful overcoming of challenges, accompanied by aural and visual entertainment, really can't be had elsewhere, most especially while sitting on our couch. Our hands were sore from all the high-fiving we were doing!

Thanks for sharing man.

The only times that I've found myself not enjoying video games, I also found myself not enjoy much else in life either. This tended to stem from myself being depressed about unrelated issues that bled negative consequences outward. Basically, when I was depressed, it just sucked the fun out of everything else in life. Now I'm not saying you're depressed, but I am saying if there are factors going on in your life such as high stress or heavy decisions, this could be affecting your ability to simply let go and relax with a game. I could be totally wrong, but I'm just sharing the one thing that ever gets in the way of myself enjoying gaming; outside emotional factors.

I wish you luck CD AGES!

I'm not sure if you're talking about this particular entry:

If you aren't, you might enjoy that link.

Thanks for reading the other stuff. Writing a gaming blog was kinda fun, but I felt like no one was reading it so I moved on to other creative endeavors.

Ah, I was referring to the line in part 3 (?) of the article you linked earlier, but I have now given that thread a read too, great stuff yet again, and I really could not agree more.

Wanting to give Obscure a go now too, though going into details about that is getting a little off-topic for this thread I think. Just hoping it doesn't have too much motion, girl gets sick easy from that stuff (No co-op Borderlands :()

I've finally got a retro setup that allows me to play my shmups in tate mode! I found an old 20" Vizio up in the attic, and it's the perfect size. It has S-Video and VGA so I've been jumping between the Saturn and Dreamcast to get my fix.

Now I need to get my hands on a nice arcade stick for the Saturn...The one I have gets the job done but definitely leaves much to be desired.

Don't worry, this is a shitty game. The gameplay is mediocre, and I got stuck very early on, too. I bought it as a kid and thought maybe it's just a hard game. Then I bought it as an adult a few years ago, and it's still the same issues.

Recently started Virtua Photo Studio. It's like Pokemon Snap, but instead of Pokemon, you take pictures of naked Japanese women. It's an FMV game. You pick one of three models, pick out their outfits between stages, and occasionally convince them to take off more clothes when they get shy/nervous in dialogue sequences. Everything's in Japanese. You're boss looks like Filthy Frank with a shiny shirt. He shouts angry sounding Japanese at you a lot. You can save the pictures for later ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) after each stage.

It's terrible. Kind of makes you feel like a bastard after 20 minutes of gameplay; not because of the naked women, but because of the parts where you make them take off more clothes. It's weird. By the way, they totally bare all: ass, titties, and growlers galore.

Do not recommend unless you're into this shit, or collect "adult" games. Good for a few laughs if you're downloading a copy. Definitely not good if you're just looking for a good porn.

Played some of Sonic 3D Blast on the Saturn, and I really think this is a great game. It gets a bad rap I'm sure (control takes some getting use to), but the Saturn version just seems really playable. Sound quality and graphics are also quite good. I really enjoy the music in Stage 2.
