Broken screen on handheld portable PMP 5

So a few days ago the screen on this blurred into white in a similar way that the screen might when a battery is dead. the sound and the device is still working fine but I can no longer get any picture...although strangely I've managed to get it back twice, seemingly at random since for periods of several minutes before the same thing happens.

I'm guessing it's just a cheap screen dying but I took it apart to take some photos and wondered if anyone might spot anything that might be causing the problem. It's just a cheap clone handheld from taobao but it's still annoying that it lasted less than a month.

The screen lights up blank when powered on and gradually gets brighter with coloured vertical lines gradually bleeding into view.

I assumed the screen had just died but then twice it's came back on like normal since :?:

Do any technical folk have any suggestions as to what the problem migbht be. I'd like to fix it as it was still kind of useful as an MP3 and video player for plane journeys even if the game emulation was patchy.

After using the laser light to play with the cat I switched it back on and again the screen is now working...I'm sure it will fade out again though...seemingly randomly.

Could the use of the LED be shorting it somehow?

I think that's your main problem right there. You get what you pay for I suppose...

Yes, but I've had other similarly cheap handhelds that work just fine. I posted this here because I thought someone might see something technical that I'm missing.

That ribbon cable (or its connector) is most likey flaking out. You might be able to play with it's position to get it to work. Then shim it with some paper or something similar to keep it there when you reassemble it.

Thanks, since taking it apart and jiggling it it did come back on and is still working for now.

Any tips on how it should look?
