Re: Amiibo!!
Here is the thing. Would you rather Nintendo bring out a million amiibos to stores in a month and have them sell out..or put out 3 million amiibos and sell a million. You can't determine exactly how much will sell, so you have to be conservative

Re: Amiibo!!
This. Nintendo has been very conservative on their production of things a lot lately just to not end up flooding retailers with items that aren't selling. Regarding the amiibos they are facing an uphill battle with retailers since they are the third to show up with "Game Figures" that need shelf space. Considering how much over stock many retailers are left with because of "unpopular" skylander sets, the buyers for these retail stores seem hesitant to stock their shelves with more product that may or may not sell. Might be why Walmart chose to do almost all of Wave 4 online versus even putting them in a store. I think Walmart dedicates the least amount of space for Amiibos of all the places that sell them. Walking through the shelves I see lots of skylander stuff on discount and not moving.BogusMeatFactory wrote:Here is the thing. I think the combo of retailer skepticisism and Nintendo being conservative has turned in to quite the mess for all of us. Unless you want Mario or Pikachu, then you may be completely happy at this point.

Yeah, while we're at it, let's have 50M units of every game available on release day! It'd be amazing seeing the stacks of them overflowing stores and drowning children.BogusMeatFactory wrote:Here is the thing. All I'm saying is put some perspective on these things.
Nintendo is a company that hasn't personally produced toys worldwide, and hasn't really produced toys at all since the 70s. People are expecting stock, out of the gate, to rival full time toy companies. People are expecting retailers to give a shit that actual customers aren't getting the figures. (You honestly think Amazon cares? They love that their pre-orders sell out. People just throw them back on there and they get a cut of the resale too). Amiibo are 7 months old, and ~3M figures world wide a month isn't enough to meet demand. They aren't cheap to produce, the individual pieces are injection molded, but they have to be assembled and painted by hand. It means it takes longer and costs more, and you can't make as many per run.
They claim they're pushing out more (and realistically, if they were going to ramp up production we not only wouldn't know until November or something, it would probably take new manufacturing contracts) and their goals are for people to get the ones they want. It's a much better message than they were sending out before. I think Nintendo understands that a lot of these are being flipped before consumers have a chance, and they're trying to do something about it. But you can't just flood the market either, it would destroy amiibo. Everyone would stop caring if they could actually get any figure they wanted at any time (There's no longer immediacy). Though, I don't think the situation is manufactured, it's something they have to think about. Maybe that means you re-stock slow and steady.
I wouldn't be surprised if retailers are manipulating how these things are being distributed about to maximize the bubble while it lasts. Maybe fully stocking areas that don't have great internet access, but starving areas that do, forcing people to get up at 2AM to pre-order. Amiibo, online are, currently, a guaranteed sale.

For what it's worth, they are pushing out more. You might not be seeing it as easily with the demand in the US, but I've been able to obtain most of the rarest amiibos in the last 2 months as they keep reappearing online. Captain Falcon, Metaknight, Robin, Lucina, Little Mac - picked them all up. The only one I haven't seen (and now the only one I need) is Shulk.
Re: Amiibo!!
Well I've listed the ones I want to find for my desk, even now checking stores a little when I'm out instead of avoiding it, I still see nothing but all the common junk.
If someone is willing and bumps into Captain Falcon, Fox, Lil Mac, and Pit at retail I'll buy them off you, pay the shipping, your fees, handing materials, and your time and on like $20/ea on an individual one. I'm fed up with it and not playing into other peoples dumb games of hoarding, trading at 4x the value, or taking a week off work and sitting outside stores hoping something comes up like a weenie.
I'm thinking I'll try and get Ness/Charizard out of this wave at some point. ROB, Duck Hunt, Chibi Robo, not sure about others(don't have list in front of me) for the next in fall.

Re: Amiibo!!
This is why I've almost exclusively began sourcing from Japanese sellers on Amazon. There is almost always at least a $7 mark up but compared to the 3x markups US sellers have been demanding I can live with that.
So far my strategy has been to go ahead and buy the JP version of waves before they are launched in the US - demand for even JP versions goes up once the NA wave comes and goes. So for a small mark up I recently added Gannon, Paletena, Dark Pit and more to my shelf. I open them all so the packaging doesn't matter.

Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?
Re: Amiibo!!
Ordered a ness off Fleabay a month ago--never received it. Now I'm in the process of getting my money back. Anyone got an extra? It's the last one I need for the original 12, and then I'm virtually done with Amiibo other than Ganon and Totakeke.

Re: Amiibo!!
Silver Mario got stocked in my area. But I don't go around checking too many stores. I've never walked into a Toys R Us since amiibo started, for example.
