Anyone ever play The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky?
I got it during the GOG summer sale. It looks real neat, and I kinda feel like playing a JRPG, but I don't know if I'm in the mood for it. I heard it's real text heavy. Is it more text heavy than the average JRPG?
What RPG are you playing right now?

It's the best LoH game, but very text-heavy. And long.
There are so many superior Falcom games. I'd recommend Gurumin or any Ys game, assuming the prices are similar.

You realize at this point whenever you say "I recommend you play Ys" it's like when an athlete recommends whatever company is sponsoring him, except I don't think Falcom is paying you.BoneSnapDeez wrote:It's the best LoH game, but very text-heavy. And long.

Sadly, no..... but think of all the money I have given to Falcom.

I'm surprised Bone hasn't made Adol his avatar yet. But in his defense, Falcom is pretty damned awesome. Too bad something like 85% of their catalog never left Japan though. Biggest travesty in gaming? It just may be.
PLAY KING'S FIELD.

Yep, pretty much the first Infinity Engine-style RPG I've finished. Definitely points in its favor. I've basically just learned that I need to be really, really patient at the start. Picking a monk doesn't help with the start, either, as you're pretty weak and squishy until you get a few levels under your belt.noiseredux wrote:Started Pillars of Eternity. It is awesome.
While I'm not looking for a similar experience right this second, I figure Baldur's Gate II or Planescape: Torment will be the next one I shoot for. Given what I know about P:T, the ability to mostly avoid a lot of combat appeals significantly.

I went with an elf fighter, modeled after my character in Dragon Age Origins.

Thankfully most of the Japan-only console releases aren't terribly expensive. Of course, the language barrier can be an issue.Exhuminator wrote:I'm surprised Bone hasn't made Adol his avatar yet. What's more frustrating is how many of their games were only released on computers - Panorama Toh, Dinosaur, Asteka, Brandish 3 & 4, and several others. I'll probably never get around to finishing those.
Oh, and I shall never change my avatar!
Re: What RPG are you playing right now?
P:T will probably be better for you since as you mentioned combat is not a focus in the game. BGII has a pretty high level cap that goes beyond the point where AD&D was really balanced and you really need to understand how to exploit the system or the late game stuff will "unscrew your head and shit down your neck".Sarge wrote:Yep, pretty much the first Infinity Engine-style RPG I've finished.
