RPGs analog style - planning the RacketRPG group

Post by marurun »

We need players with webcams and microphones who are willing to try out Google Hangouts. We also need a wannabe (or alreadythere) storyteller with a little time for planning. We need to agree on a system we can all get adequate access to. We need small plastic polyhedrons with numbers on the faces.

That's the plans. Now we need the wo/mans.

You in?

(Glib summary post just to reserve this spot. Will flesh it out with more detail when it's not an hour to bedtime. Will include some free RPG system suggestions and possibilities.)

I always wanted to try out P&P play. I suppose I can put on a shirt in the evenings to join in with my webcam.

I suggest rolld20 for your interface. It handles video/audio chat, dice rolling, character sheets, and maps/minis.

For systems:
- Pathfinder System Reference Document: http://www.d20pfsrd.com
Pretty much the core rules for the players, but none of the fluff.
- Fudge: http://www.fudgerpg.com/fudge/fudge.pdf

Both are free and easily obtainable. If you want to go with something with a price:
- Three Sixteen: $10 - http://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/56768/Three-Sixteen
Pretty much the Starship Troopers movies as a rpg. Low prep, loads of fun.

Sadly I do not have an opening during the week for the rest of the summer that I can dedicate to gaming. But I am a decent sounding board/ideas man.

I'm not sure I can make the group, but I'll follow the thread and chime in if I can.

My former playgroup tried both Fantasy Grounds and Roll20, and we've talked about getting back together for Tabletop Simulator. I really just wanted to drop in to second the nod to Roll20. Easier enough to use, free, webcam and mic support. It's good stuff.

roll20 does indeed look awesome and may be the best choice for our medium. As for the system to use, I will go with whatever the majority pick, but I personally enjoyed 4th edition D&D. It does take a bit more playing, what with the grid-based combat, but I felt that the combat system was fun and accessible and played more akin to a Strategy RPG like Shining Force.

Also, they have some really good pre-made campaigns that we can jump into. Also, their Dark Sun campaign setting is BALLIN' ...but that is just me....cause...you know...I love Dark Sun... but we can do traditional fantasy...to get our feet wet....and then...you know.....Dark Sun.

Make fun of me all you like. I liked it! I am not gonna argue though if other people want to go in a different direction. I just want to play!

Actually I like it as well. The people I play with play a lot of video games and not a lot of tabletop games due to living across the country, so 4E comes pretty naturally.

Hell, I still have all the digital books and campaign material for Keep on the Shadowfell set up on Roll20. I mean I could literally start running that campaign online tonight!

...I got excited, ability does not imply willingness...

...stop staring at me...
