To the uninitiated the comic makes it looks like a straight up life sim. I can picture someone reading that then being like "Oh so it's like The Sims kinda but you control one person and there's no story."

At least that's how I remember it.
Yeah with Shenmue I, that was very much the case. The worst case scenario is that you lose a day by failing. In Shenmue II, there are some branching paths and change in story based on the success, Failure or decision made in the QTEs. They put a nice spin on them that was fun and interesting and had a bit more weight to them in comparison to the first game.

That's another reason I prefer the Xbox version of 2, you can save anywhere.
You can save anywhere in the Dreamcast version of 2. It's just the first Shenmue game that didn't let you do that (although it did have a resume function that worked in the same way, but the save became wiped as soon as you loaded it - They should have just allowed you to save at any point instead).

Can you remember the last time Sega did anything that made sense?

QTE Title. That is all. When I played both games, I got over 300K on each one I encountered. Normally that gets you the mini-toy of the game you beat, but it also had special bits of conversation thrown in. The best example would be the QTE Title that was at the orphanage in Shenmue II.

Seriously, that and its 8bit music is the best!

Yeah, I keep on thinking this. I don't know why anyone thinks it's likely.

This is the same Sega that would rather give us Sonic Boom 2 than Sonic Generations 2.

Or would give us Shining Anything That Isn't Another Force Game.

Yes!!!

And won't give the West Phantasy Star Online 2 or Phantasy Star Nova. Oh, and whilst we're at it, where's the Western release of Yakuza 5 we were promised this year?

In the interview with Tak Hirai, on the Kickstarter page, he's asked about QTEs, and (from memory) essentially said III will likely have them in some capacity, but he wants to combine them with another mechanic in a way that would make something more revolutionary.
