There weren't many riots during the "nadir of American race relations," but race relations in America certainly did not improve during that period. In contrast, there were many riots during the Civil Rights Movement, and I think everyone would agree that race relations improved dramatically during that period.BoringSupreez wrote:It really doesn't seem to me like things have gotten better, or that they're getting better.
I certainly don't condone violence, and I agree that riots are a very poor response to perceived social injustice. That said, they certainly highlight the issues underlying them, and the LAPD's reforms in the wake of the L.A. riots shows that they sometimes force reform.BoringSupreez wrote:If these conflicts are the result of addressing longstanding problems, they're ineffective conflicts. All I see is both sides getting more fed up with each other. A lot of blacks feel like they're targeted, and a lot of whites are sick of what they feel is a double standard regarding white-on-black violence vs black-on-white.
