Wii-U thoughts so far
Re: Wii-U thoughts so far
I would not be surprised if Zelda WiiU got a dual launch like Twilight Princess did. Another thing I wonder is with Hyrule Warriors going as 'Legends' to the 3DS with the DLC on the card perhaps even Nintendo has lost their faith and look to make some more money back from their work along with Tecmo-Koei on that one. Perhaps Starfox won't do so hot being part of their B team of franchises and the temptation would be there to do it (one can hope, then I'd play it.)

Honestly, the 3DS has been just as dry as the Wii U this year, if not worse, so I think this is less 'recuperating money from the Wii U game' and more 'padding out the upcoming 3DS library a bit'. 3DS has had a remake of Majora, a remake of Xenoblade and Code Name S.T.E.A.M. this year and that's about it.
At least they have a good set of stuff on the way for it.

I know this is the unofficial "Wii U Apologist" thread but I don't know anyone drinking the Nintendo Kool Aid after that presentation. That was the worst showing from Nintendo in a long time.

Yup. It's very disappointing.

Eh I think it's still a fair statement, and you did leave off some solid 3DS releases that just weren't published and/or developed by Nintendo that are or will be out this year. Etrian Odyssey (1 is out 1 coming), Story of Seasons, Monster Hunter 4, SMT Devil Survivor 2, Puzzle & Dragons, Hatsune Miku, Lego Jurassic Park, Senran Kagura 2, another Animal Crossing game, Chibi Robo Zip Lash, Rodea the Sky Soldier, another Adventure Time game, Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon, Project XZone 2. I'm sure there's more, not really a bad list in any way for just 2015. WiiU isn't that diverse nor plentiful on physical media.

Nintendo seems to be pushing digital distribution pretty hard these days. (I guess it noticed its games' high resale values...) And, I would bet dollars to doughnuts, Nintendo's next system will not accept physical media.
Re: Wii-U thoughts so far
I would take that bet and I don't gamble.
It'll take physical games, they'll just dual release every single game. Until a time comes when the majority share markets of the world are on a gigabit style internet connection like Japan already is, they won't flush away physical media. For every rabid gamer who is fine to download over night or during an 8hour work shift, you have a lot more that are not who want it now and not having to wait. You also have that group who want to own and control a game, not a vapor filled promise on digital. The gaming industry will do as you want, it'll get forced upon people, but only when you can start getting blu-ray sized downloads pretty fast. With so many still seeing like a 1/2 to 1MB/sec(3.6GB/hr at 1MB/sec) transfer rates on downloads it's just not right yet.

I am not being an apologist for saying I enjoyed their presentation. It was a nice change from the other conferences. Every game they showed I will get except Skylander. With Microsoft I was ony interested in the Rare collection and backward compatibility. And with Sony Last Gaurdian and No Man's Sky ( which I will get on PC). While Shenmue was cool and all using it as a marketing gimmick was disgusting and again their is a PC port. Even if Nintendo's games were sparse they are all theirs and the only way to play them. That is much better then getting map packs, dlc, early access like most of what Sony showed.
I still seem to be the only one surprised and excited about Mario and Luigi Paper Jam.
Where's my chippy? There's my chippy.
Re: Wii-U thoughts so far
I've cut back on my posting in this thread because of Dave's negativity train. I enjoyed the presentation; Star Fox and Mario & Luigi were the height of the presentation and Xenoblade Chronicles X gave me a ton of Xenogears vibes which pleased me.
