Looking at a 360 - what games are worth getting?
Re: Looking at a 360 - what games are worth getting?
As for exclusives there are also some nice RPGs such as Blue Dragon, Infinite Undiscovery, and Lost Odyssey.

Here's a decent list I have:
- Banjo-Kazooie remasters on the XBLA service are great N64 remakes. I think you'll like 'em.
- When looking for Viva Pinata, aim for the double pack along with Banjo Nuts and Bolts.
-Darksiders series is a darker take on Zelda.
- If you are into racing the Forza series is great.
- For kid friendly games you can get Plants vs. Zombies that has other games in the retail disc, as well as the Xbox Arcade Unplugged discs
- For retro and trippy light visuals a compilation disc called Qubed is a good choice
- on the XBLA serive we have: Castle Crashers, three Geometry Wars games, Braid, Alien Hominid (PDA games are great co-op games), Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet (Metriodvania), Super Meat Boy, Shadow Complex (Metroidvania), N+, Mark of the Ninja, and last but not least, the two Splosion Man games.
Lots of potential. So many more games! If you are looking for specific genres i have other recommendations.

Re: Looking at a 360 - what games are worth getting?
Some very interesting recommendations I need to check out. I was perusing at GameStop tonight, needed to take back Smash Bros which wasn't working, and saw some XBLA Arcade packs. One had Uno and Pac-Man Championship and I don't remember what was on the other one. Are these any good? They are certainly cheap enough. I saw the Zone of Enders Collection as well. Is this any good?
Are both Viva Piñata games worth getting? The system I'm looking at comes with a 20 GB HD. Is that big enough? Are there any good SHMUPS or 2D Platformers on Live? I didn't care for Braid or Super Meat Boy though. Anything like the X-Men or Simpsons Arcade games which sadly aren't up anymore?

20GB is big enough if you don't mind cleaning it out every now and then although I think there area handful of newer games like GTA V that need more then that. I'd say go for a 250 gig if you can though. Most of the pawns around me have started dropping there 360s to $99 recently and I could probably easily talk them down to $75 or so I would say shop around your area a bit and see what you can find. Also make sure to grab one of the newer ones if possible the older ones have cooling issues and no built in wifi.
As for the Viva Pinata games I've heard nothing but good things about them. However I've never gotten around to playing either of them yet.

As far as shmups go, Deathsmiles and Akai Katana are the obvious picks but I'd also highly recommend Trouble Witches Neo on XBLA. I really liked that game's mechanics.
It also has the worst English dub I've ever heard but you can switch to Japanese if/when it starts making you crazy.

There is also Otomedius Excellent, but it's pervy as hell. The gameplay is pretty fun though albeit a little grindy since your weapons level and you randomly unlock new powers/shot patterns by playing the game over and over.

honestly of all the 360 shmups, I think OE is the worst. The box set is nice, the soundtrack is great. But so many better shmups especially with region free imports in the mix.
DDP Resurrection is another amazing one tho.
Deathsmiles IIX is on XBLA, but I don't think it's nearly as good as the original.

Re: Looking at a 360 - what games are worth getting?
My most played 360 games and top recommendations:
Capcom Digital Collection
Dreamcast Collection
Konami Classics Vol. 1
Konami Classics Vol. 2
Midway Arcade Origins
Namco Museum Virtual Arcade
Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection
And noise is right, Otomedius Excellent is the worst 360 shmup by a landslide. Avoid it unless you collect shmups or something. Deathsmiles, Dodonpachi Resurrection, Mushihime-sama Futari Ver 1.5 are my faves. Note that only DS was released in the US but the other two are region-free. Akai Katana was okay - didn't blow me away - and I haven't tried any other 360 shmups yet.
I also enjoy the console for WRPGs like The Witcher 2 and Fable II/III (I'm more of a console than PC guy these days) and some exclusive JRPG titles like Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey.
As far as the big-name cross-platform games (Bioshock, Borderlands, etc) go I actually prefer them on the 360 because I find the controller to be way better than the PS3's.
