How's this going? I owned it for a while but couldn't get all the way through it. It was a little TOO manic for me, despite being amusing in places. Some of the repeating jokes got pretty old by the halfway mark, IMO, and that's part of what shut me down.

I've only watched a few episodes. Its spastic for sure, but I love that kind of thing. So far I am enjoying it very much. I love the little dog Menchi (I have the plushie :D))

I loved Excel Saga... a decade ago, not sure how well it'd hold up haha. It was fun with groups back in the obscure anime days though.

I'd like to rewatch Excel Saga at some point. Now that I've actually seen a huge variety of anime-genres I might get more parody-references.

One thing I've learned the last time I watched it though: never watch more than two episodes at a time. I tried to show it to friends in college and after the first episode they REALLY wanted to keep going... and were both asleep by the end of the second episode. I think it suffers from the same problem as Monty Python and the Holy Grail: it's consistently funny but not structured in a way that gives the audience time to breathe between gags. It ends up making the experience of watching it in large chunks less fun.
I'd really like to try reading the manga though; I know it's completely different. I also thought Puni Puni Poemy was an excellent follow-up anime. I think I like that one more than Excel Saga.

I watched it last year, it's still hilarious. Some humor is timeless. It's also interesting now from the perspective of how it influenced later anime like Panty and Stocking.

Very true, now that you mention it. I've never been able to watch more than two hours at a time.

Fun fact: a New Zealand man went to jail for watching Puni Puni Poemy. Found this when I was writing a paper on virtual child pornography laws for my ethics class.

Speaking of parody stuff, have any of you guys seen all of Boboboboboo? (I'm not even going to attempt the correct spelling!)

This was another one my friends and I enjoyed years back, but I think it was airing or something so we never got too far. I've noticed it's like 70 some episodes lol, I wonder if that's too much or not.

Gintama is one I can't get into though. With the multiple seasons isn't it nearly 300 or more episodes or something? I'm no stranger to huge shounens or whatever, but for a parody/gag/episodic series... yeah I just couldn't get into Gintama.

I may benefit from rewatching it as well. My memory is more that the funny dropped off after the first disc or so, but it may well be due to the series branching into parodying genres or series I wasn't yet familiar with.

At least watch the final episode where it goes nuts.

i just started watching sora no otoshimono (Heaven's Lost Property) and it is crazy

it feels like an odd combination of Ah! my goddess and chobits

it's an angel that grants wishes for this kid like ah! my goddess, but she's very ditzy and doesn't really know what she is, like chi from chobits.

just in the first couple episodes, the main character subconsciously wished for his friend to wear different panties, and her panties came to life and flew away like a bird. then all of the hundreds of pairs she tried on after that did the same thing until there was a whole flock of panty birds migrating across the globe.

i love it so far

I've seen advertisements and artwork from that anime and all I recall is GIANT BOOBS.

I did love Chobits tho.
