The thing that drove me crazy about Lufia was the lack of auto retargeting, when Square had that figured out in Final Fantasy III on the NES.

Good grief, I'm getting stomped by the "The Master Below" in Pillars. Most of my guys are Level 11, and I'm getting one-shotted a ton. May have to come back when I've got all my team at 12.

Another level won't help. The Master Below is NASTY.

I'm thinking of adopting a different strategy. There are a few things I can do. Level 12 will let me do the highest level enchantments, so I can beef up my equipment. It'll also let me get Aloth his Level 6 spells.

Either that, or I can do the cheese strategy with the Adragon traps. I'd been thinking of doing that anyway. Apparently I can set up a Flame Wall, put a ton of traps out so it gets stuck on them. If I can do anything to stun / petrify / whatever, it'll help.

I wish I knew what I did to start last night, because I smacked off a fifth of life right off the bat, then bogged down immediately. Actually, that may have been Kana hitting with his gun. Either way, I'm probably going to have to rely on my magic users to get through. I'm also wondering if it wouldn't make a lot of sense to get Grieving Mother in there, and try to charm the scrubs.

So how'd you pull it off, anyway? Or did you just say "screw it" and move on?

Ha, yeah, I had noticed that little quirk. I don't find it a problem but it happens now and again if I don't plan my strategy properly. I guess the characters of Lufia aren't known for their quick thinking.

I said screw it and moved on and went with a different conclusion to that quest.

I probably won't feel bad cheesing the battle, then. I figure I'll see if I've got any of those Adragon traps, and petrify and make it die painfully. :)

I can see where I think I could do it traditionally if I can get a lot of defenses up, better armor, and something to kill all the mooks. I mean, really, the fight is hard enough without them entering the fray...

Was the end boss that hard to take down? I sure hope it's not on this level.

End boss, while a difficult fight, is nowhere near the Master in terms of difficulty. If you wipe it'll because you didn't pay attention to what was going on and had poor target prioritization, and it won't happen instantly.

I'm eight hours into Lufia now. Just finished off the Ghost Cave and am now going back to the cave of trials or whatever it's called as I've reached level 15. Then it's back to hunting for this elusive elf.

I still don't understand the negative reviews about this games story. It seems pretty decent for the time with plenty of side characters and interesting events.

Gave up for now on the Master Below, moving ahead with other quest stuff. I did temporarily agree to do the quest associated with that, got some EXP for it, but I can always renege on the deal.

So I took care of all but my Druid's character quest, and I think I'm going to make the run to the end. Supposedly the refight with Raedric is tough, but I had no issues with that battle, so I'm hoping the same will be true for the last boss.
