From what I can tell, yes. It seems to simply consider them Genesis games.

Yes, since it's all still emulated and likely runs off the same emulator as the Genesis.Sload Soap wrote:Here's a question (that has probably already been answered) but if I put a powerbase converter in the Retron 5 to play SMS games, does it also upscale them/have quick saves/etc?
Those games are even included in the cheat database. The Retron 5 manual has the PBC in it so it was developed with that in mind from the start.

I let out quite a chuckle the first time I saw the manual. So surreal to read something from 2014 with instructions about how to attach an optional piece of hardware released in 1989.Gunstar Green wrote:The Retron 5 manual has the PBC in it

Well s*it I hope my R5 lasts longer than about a year. It's over a year old now!

Re: WELL THIS IS INTERESTING.. Retron 5
I tested TONS of carts with mine. And every translation patch possible. So much yanking and thrusting.
My daughter has also been hitting the Kirby HARD.
Spike McFang was the final straw. The system rolled over and died once I yanked that cart out. Bullet Proof Software? How 'bout some Bullet Proof Hardware to go along with it?
Hoping I have better luck once my new one rolls in.

You should. It has been so long since I went through that crap and was shipped one of the fresh off the line new style(now) systems with the rightly spaced durable pins, rigid non bending top, and dust covers to the controller ports. It never gave me a fit once.

New firmware from 6/9 - 2.3 BETA 2
- Fast cartridge loading supported again
- Fast forward modified to toggle on/off with the configured button combo, rather than the old hold to activate method
- Genesis cheats working with fast cartridge loading mode
- Gameboy compatibility fixes (HuC1, HuC3, MBC1 multi-cart)
- Stability improvements (some memory leaks resolved)
Get here
I'll try it soon and report back, I hope I don't have to downgrade back to 2.0b5 again.

Well I got the revised model today..... This thing is about 100 times better than what I had been playing.
Re: WELL THIS IS INTERESTING.. Retron 5
Your official Retron 5 firmware tester here.
I just tried 2.3 BETA 2, and guess what?
I rolled back to 2.0b6 AGAIN.
Nothing new, right? Well let me continue.
At FIRST, it seemed like a good firmware. Nothing bad, my SNES games were all being recognized (unlike the previous update which seemed to forget 4-5 of them existed!)
But then in one hour of testing, my Retron 5 shut itself off, TWICE. Black screen. One on the menu, one in the middle of a game! I also had a hard time getting it to switch back on, oddly enough. After the second outage, I went right back to get the old 2.0 firmware, and now I'm back to that.
NOTE: I don't know if those with the 2nd gen Retron 5 units might fare better with this firmware. I'm issuing an "Install With Caution" warning here. I think I'll wait for a better feature/fix combination before even considering another firmware update. 2.0b6 is still more reliable!

Re: WELL THIS IS INTERESTING.. Retron 5
The "+" button on my Retron wireless controller doesn't function in-game. No matter what type of game. It works fine on the Retron menu screen.
I should say I've recently updated to the latest firmware. Not sure whether that made a difference or not. TBH, I didn't previously pick up on any issues simply because I almost always use other controllers.
I dunno. All of a sudden maybe button mapping issues?
In any case, when I get back home I'll see if it makes any difference by rolling back to the previous firmware I was using.
