So Bethesda's E3 Press Conference came and went and I was curious to hear what people thought about their first time having a big stage to show off their stuff. Do you feel like they brought enough to the table in comparison to other developers like Ubisoft, EA or Activision (This posting is of course before those conferences... soooo...)?
Here is a short breakdown of what was announced by Bethesda.
The first showing was of the new Doom game. Of all the things they showed, this seemed to be the most exciting for me. The gameplay seemed more fast and frenetic, clearly attributed to the original style of play the Doom series had, versus the slow, brooding, jump-scare style Doom 3 had. I loved the SnapMap that is again an homage to the original Doom for modding maps and game modes. I feel like they just wanted to make a modern game that plays a lot like the original, which I am perfectly fine with. Doom isn't complicated. Run, Shoot, get to the end of the level and I think they captured that finally.
The second thing they showed was Battlecry and I wasn't really impressed. The game is a team based on-line action game somewhat akin to Team Fortress 2. There is a heavy focus on melee combat and the animations seemed jerky and just... off and the visual style seemed muddled and confusing. I just feel like there are other team-based games out there that seem to be a bit more put together cohesively. You need to have that cohesive visual style and charm that helps make things last. Games like Team Fortress 2 and Splatoon are great examples (Splatoon, I hope so!).
Dishonored 2 popped up and I thought it would be very interesting. It seemed like more of the same from the original, which is on my backlog, but it really was a, wait and see. It looks like it will be a lot of fun!
An Elder Scrolls Card game! ........ yay?
And then there is Fallout 4. My thoughts are here and they are not that good. That is just my personal opinion based on what interests me in a game.
What about the Fallout iPhone game? Or the Fallout 4 app?
So yeah! Share your thoughts and let us know how you feel they stacked up against the competition. They were the first out the gate, so we shall wait and see!

Main thing I'm excited for from that is Dishonored 2, since the first one was a blast. Having the choice of characters is cool.
Fallout would remain to be seen, since the main issues I had with 3 and NV were about choice. Basically couldn't choose to do what I wanted at the end.
DOOM...I don't care.

It looks awesome right!? We don't get many of the Run-n-gun style FPS games any more and it is refreshing to see that coming out the wazoo here. I am actually excited about this, which is really surprising.Ack wrote:

Basically I think Bethesda may have won E3 already. I will be buying Doom 4, Fallout 4, and Dishonored 2 at release.

Watching gameplay footage of the new Doom and enjoying it, but...why is he loading used shotgun shells into the double-barrel shotgun?

Pause at 2:11, you can see divots in the primers of the shells he puts into the double-barrel.

I often shoot used shotgun shells through my Super Shotgun. The magic of the Super Shotgun allows for reloads when firing.Ack wrote:Watching gameplay footage of the new Doom and enjoying it, but...why is he loading used shotgun shells into the double-barrel shotgun?

Re: Bethesda's E3 Press Conference
Doom 4 is like someone looked at the goofy one-shot comic book from the 90's and said, "let's make the next game like this."
And it's wonderful.
It looks like everything I was hoping Doom 3 was going to be. The only thing missing from the gameplay shown is a heavy metal soundtrack.
