It's very clear that none of you really understood what Jurassic Park was. And that's why you didn't enjoy Jurassic World as much as you could.

Jurassic Park was never a thriller. It was an exploration of the majesty of the dinosaurs; the greatest thing to ever appear on this Earth. The thriller aspects were there to show a contrast between us and them.

Jurassic World is a fulfillment of the promise put forth by Park; to let the world see these marvelous creatures. Growing up, I was the kid. Had the park existed when I was that age you better believe I would have gone and had the time of my life.

The escape, the chases, the underhanded deals, those are all cinematic devices to create the necessary conflict for the movie. But they aren't the point of the movie. The point of the movie is dinosaurs, and it delivers in spades.

No, Popo, it is clear to me that you do not understand the point of Jurassic Park. It was to show us a time long past, to offer a glimpse into the God damn Viking Age, where Viking women armed with heavy machine guns riding Tyrannosaurus Rexes fought of roving laser raptors which shot beams of light from their eyes that could kill in an instant. JP gave us a glimpse of the true form of the laser raptor but failed to follow through, and Jurassic World is just more of the same. Sure, dinosaurs fight, but I see a distinct lack of both lasers AND sexy Viking women in chainmail and fur bikinis. For that, I can only say that this film is a travesty for not following the true scientific findings of the Viking Age and instead trying to appeal to the lowest common denominator. Or second lowest common denominator. Nobody wants to appeal to Michael Bay fans, they are not intelligent life forms.

The last movie I watched was Avengers 2. I think I'm done seeing those movies in theaters, maybe if they come to Netflix. I'll probably skip Iron Man while I'm at it.

Devil in a Blue Dress (1995)

A noir film taking place in 1948 Los Angeles, Ezekiel "Easy" Rawlins is a World War II veteran who has been unfairly laid off from an aircraft manufacturer, Champion Aircraft. He becomes a private investigator to pay the mortgage, despite having no training. He ends up getting mixed into a really nasty scandal with some rather unsavory characters, no surprise there. I had some problems with this film's plot progress, a lot of important lines were mumbled and sometimes I lost track of what was going on. (Then again, it was really late at night when I watched this.) Despite being a little confused at times, I enjoyed this film. Denzel Washington has always been an excellent actor, and he pulled his weight here just fine. It was disheartening to see the racism he had to deal with, but it was shown in a way that seemed genuine and not just for the sake of showing how bad things used to be. Overall if you enjoy noir detective films, I think you'd have some fun with this film. Some of its abstract violence and crazy scenes actually reminded me of Tarantino's work. It's a shame this film was a box office loser, but given the uniqueness of the entire concept including the time period and race of the lead actor, that fate was no mystery to unravel.

Terrible analogy, but it reminded me of RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES, as you've seen it, you know what to expect, but it is an improvement on the story. Barely, but still an improvement.

It is formulaic as my friends honestly pointed out. But there is something to say about movies that keep you thinking "I know what's going to happen" and it does, but remains satisfying.

Pretty sure the focus of the visual team was "make it obviously fake, but don't". And spoiler alert, that is kind of the movie summed up in a succinct blanket. Fans of Sci-Fi Head Scratchers will love this. Dudes who would like to have carnal activities with robots might leave halfway through the movie to relieve themselves.

Hard to give a movie like this a solid 1 to 4 as you do need to think it over. But as of now I would say a 3.5 out of 4.
Quoting this from way back to give my take as I just watched it. I really enjoyed it, while the outcome is obvious and the plot twists are minor and foreseeable, the way it builds suspense is really excellent. Watching the "hero" awkwardly deal with the situation he's in was great.

The characters are likable and while it has the usual "morality of A.I." themes built into it the movie lets you draw your own conclusions without weighing itself down with a specific message.

It's a well constructed film and refreshingly smart without being pretentious. I think it might be one of the best sci-fi films I've seen in a while that isn't an action movie. I feel bad for missing out on this one when it was released.

I recently saw Ex Machina as well. Didn't know much about it beforehand, so I kinda went off the trailer, which basically takes all the action scenes and shows them off. Definite misrepresentation there, and I think my expectations colored my experience a bit negatively. Might have to watch again with a different mindset.

I never saw that trailer. The trailer I saw was drawn from scenes at the beginning of the movie so I went in expecting something exploring the nature of AI. I knew there'd be a twist somewhere, because it was a movie, but I guessed the wrong twist.
My guess was the twist was going to be that the protagonist is secretly an AI and doesn't realize it, so the true test was to see whether he could realize he was an AI through interacting with something that is obviously an AI.
