Christopher Lee Died

RIP

Probably most famous for playing Dracula, I knew him best as playing Francisco Scaramanga. I love the nod to him in the credits of Castlevania. To a younger generation, he's probably better known for his roles in the Star Wars prequels and Lord of the Rings.

I also first became aware of Lee through his portrayal of Scaramanga. He absolutely made the movie, and the film version of The Man with the Golden Gun is actually considerably better than the book.

Also, there are two guys I think of when I think of Dracula: Bela Lugosi and Christopher Lee. I grew up watching old Universal horror movies, and though John Carradine played the Dracula role in films like House of Frankenstein, I always mentally linked it to Lee instead.

And Lee was great in Gremlins 2. Just saying.

From LOTR Peter Jackson’s DVD commentary:

“When I was shooting the stabbing shot with Christopher, as a director would, I was explaining to him what he should do… And he says, ‘Peter, have you ever heard the sound a man makes when he’s stabbed in the back?’ And I said, 'Um, no.’ And he says 'Well, I have, and I know what to do.’” -

He was a great actor, and he stole the show in all of his films. If you haven't seen them already, you should watch:

Horror Express;
The Wicker Man; and
The Last Unicorn.

They are all great.

Such fun movies. I actually just re-watched The Last Unicorn the other night. With such top-notch voice work and talent throughout that film, his ability to command presence is even more impressive.

Fun note: He voiced King Haggard in both the English and German versions.
