Feels like a rookie question considering how long I've been collecting, but my cat just knocked a bunch of PS1 games off my shelf and damaged a few cases. Are the generic empty cases you can get at dollar stores the same thing? As far as I can tell there are no Playstation specific markings on any of my games.
What about the multi-disc games, the double-wides that you see the likes of most RPGs in?
What do you do for replacement jewel cases?

The generic jewel cases are the exact same, but make sure the tray inside is clear, too. Double cases are usually two of these generic cases put together, minus the front part of the case that normally holds the manual or inserts. The hard part will be finding replacement case hinges for these double disc cases as those are pretty fragile and not as common to buy in stores, imo.

Awesome, at the very least I'll be able to replace the single disk games. Next time I'm at London Drugs I'll see if they have any sort of double CD cases... obviously I'd rather stick with authentic ones but I'm more concerned about my games being safe than having 100% accurate packaging haha

I was pleased with my jewel case order from Sleeve City. See my previous post for more details. Shipping was kind of high though.

I get replacement CD and DVD cases at Staples. The issue with many of these generic CD case packs is that the tray is the traditional black instead of transparent. This doesn't bother me, but I'm sure it would some folks.

Best way to replace the cases is to buy new jewel CD cases from ebay or a garage sale. The way to replace them differs for PS1 double cases vs single.
Double PS1 Cases: To replace the top plastic take the new case open it and remove the tray (can be pryed off carefully). Then pop the back plastic off and use it on the front of the double case. The old front case pops off real easy.
Single Cases: Pretty self explanatory. Just take off the top off the new case, and then use the back just as explained above.

DVD cases. Every disc game I get goes from a jewel case straight into a DVD case, then I print a cover from thecoverproject.net. Just so much more durable and looks so much better on the shelf.

^What do you do with the jewel cases/manuals/inserts then? I'm assuming you keep them, if not do you sell them?
Collects promo gaming stuff, certain import games, hockey memorabilia, and other oddball things. (sig and avy under construction)
Re: What do you do for replacement jewel cases?
Manuals and inserts fit nicely in the DVD case tabs for safe keeping, and I keep the original jewel cases in a box under my bed, also for safe keeping.Josh wrote:^What do you do with the jewel cases/manuals/inserts then? I'm assuming you keep them, if not do you sell them?
I get my cases here:
