As far as everything excluding parts of the story go, I see where all the praise comes from. The story itself... I honestly don't know how to feel about. I'm still trying to get through my head that last little bit for a variety of reasons.Gamerforlife wrote:The ending kind of soured me on it, but everyone seems to praise that movie for things that have nothing to do with the actual story...like the hall way scene.Forlorn Drifter wrote:Finally got to see Oldboy. The ever talked about hallway scene was a delight, but I honestly don't know yet what I think of the movie. I'm going to have to mull over it to even get an idea on where I stand.
What was the last movie you've seen?

About Oldboy's ending.

Now doesn't a certain member have a rather interesting avatar (not to mention life as chronicled in the Smile/Ticked thread) based on that?
you loved it.
you hated it?
it knocked you up?
WHAT?
Also, aside from bringing together Paul Sorvino, Anthony Steward Head (of Buffy fame), Alexa Vega (of Spy Kids fame), Nivek Ogre of Skinny Puppy, Bill Moseley (Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, House of 1000 Corpses), Paris Hilton and Sarah Brightman (in her film debut), this film's creators are director Darren Lynn Bousman (Saw 2-3, Mother's Day remake), writer Terrence Zdunich (who wrote the original stage version) and composer Darren Smith (who plays a composer in the film), all working towards a strange and wonderful Wagnerian/industrial opera that plays like Rocky Horror meets Blade Runner with a healthy side of gore and twisted humor. And many of these people would return for the next major Bousman/Zdunich collabo:

Many REPO! alumni would return, and joined by Marc Senter and dark cabaret musician Emilie Autumn (who would later work with Bousman on the stage version of The Asylum for Wayward Victorian Girls, inspired by her time spent institutionalized after a suicide attempt, as well as the video for her song "Fight Like a Girl"), along with Sean Patrick Flanery (of Boondock Saints fame), Briana Evigan (the Step Up series), Jessica Lowndes (from 90210), Dayton Callie (from Sons of Anarchy) Shawn Crahan (from Slipknot) and Ivan Moody (from Five Finger Death Punch).
Centering around a trio of damned souls wander the stygian fairgrounds of the titular carnival, forced to relive their sins in ironic ways inspired by apropo Aesop fables.
The sequel, set for release this year, features Adam Pascal (from RENT), Barry Bostwick (from Rocky Horror), Ted Neeley (from Jesus Christ Superstar), David Hasselhoff and Tech N9ne and sends us from the wicked wonderland of The Devil's Carnival and into Heaven, depicted as an Old Hollywood world albeit twisted as can be (Zdunich compared it to "Clark Gable on acid").
In short:
* REPO! The Genetic Opera - awesome rock opera, it's Blade Runner's gory bastard child with Rocky Horror, Paul Sorvino belts out operatically, Giles and Carmen Cortez are father and daughter, Sarah Brightman projects holograms with her eyes, Paris Hilton's addicted to plastic surgery and fucks a drug dealer for cyberpunk painkillers while her brothers are OhGr and Otis Driftwood, and I AM REPO! LEGAL ASSASSIN!!!!!!
* The Devil's Carnival - God fucks up, Satan likes Aesop fables, people die, people sing, it's less than an hour long and IT'S OFF TO HELL WITH GO!!!
* The Devil's Carnival: Alleluia! - Heaven's got Old Hollywood glamour, Roger Davis sings, Satan tries to change the game, and let's go DOWN DOWN DOWN TO THE MIDNIGHT RECTORY!

I didn't see that REPO movie, I just saw the image for it under Recently Added, is all.
Interesting now since I found out I actually *get* that channel on my cable last night. It's hidden in the 900s with the Spanish networks you have to pay extra for, but it's included in the regular digital package.
Thank you for this, from one Shaw fan to another!

Shaw Stuff, Carpenter stuff, 80s classics, horror classics, spaghetti westerns, grindhouse and fan made stuff like Kung Fury
It's basically everything Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino love on one channel. I love El Rey. And as a wrestling fan, I also appreciate them having the best wrestling program on television in Lucha Underground, which is basically pro wrestling done Robert Rodriguez style.
