I still remember briefing my wife the "dos and don'ts" when taking her to the South Side of Chicago.

Why to keep the ring diamond in.
How to wear your purse.
How to read a newspaper on the train.
Not to look up at buildings.
etc.

Can't lie, I miss sense of danger in everyday life. I like to always be on my toes, not staring at people and not allowing people to stare at me...Love living in a three story house with a huge yard, but I wouldn't mind overpaying for a small apartment in the city. The sound of neighbors quarreling, airplanes flying overhead, and constant traffic makes me feel at home as chaos puts me at ease.

Well, not actual chaos, but the sound of a busy city. I prefer the sound of a city over silence any day. Also prefer a thunderstorm over a silent night.

Really? People still do that in New York? I did not see that the last time I visited, but you live there and certainly know better than me. (It also probably depends on the part of town...)
Not so much part of the town but rather when you are about. Walking home late at night? Yes. Out and about in the middle of the day? No. In a nice bar with friends? Nah. Nearly empty train at 3am? Definitely.

There is a "pop" song out that sounds like Petty and the Doors made a love child.

Please help me locate this song.

I couldn't find it in the Billboard top 100 although is has heavy rotation.

It has one singer who doesn't sing like a woman ('bout time) and has an organ in it as well. All help is very welcomed, and thanked.

You're not thinking of Black Keys, are you? El Camino basically sounded like a cover band blending Led Zep, the Doors, and Tom Petty (among others). First thing I think of with that description.

See especially Little Black Submarine for Stairway to Heaven ripoffs and Money Maker for a ever so slight variation on Hello, I Love You.

No idea but I'm kind of curious to see what it ends up being...

Ya know, my primary taste in music is firmly rooted in the underground but I'm no music snob. So I'd like to think. I don't mind "disposable" radio electro-pop and whatnot. It has it's place. It's "fun" driving music, dancing music, wedding music, whatever... And I love Taylor Swift. LOVE.

But I hate hate hate modern popular rock music. Whether it's the sterile overproduced "rock-pop", wimpy "singer-songwriter" garbage, bogus mainstream "indie rock", or (gulp) buttrock...... I just can't stand it.

My brother listens to buttrock all the time. That's about all he likes. I just can't comprehend this.

Sorry for the tangential reply.

What the heck is buttrock? I'm asking because Googling it seems ill-advised.

I consider Limp Bizkit and Nickelback buttrock, but those are extreme examples...

I've never heard of this term until bone mentioned it...that is strange and a good chunk of the bands listed under definition 3 of Urban dict. I think I'd listen too or have at one point so I think I'm inclined to agree with mj(that happens way too often)

I wouldn't put Limp Bizkit in with buttrock, at least not their early stuff. It seems to me that bland, generic stuff that came out after grunge: Nickelback (possibly excepting their first album/single), Chevelle, Puddle of Mudd, Staind, Shinedown. Or search Google for "bands like Shindown" and you get Seeter, Trapt, Theory of a Deadman, Finger Eleven.

Terrible music. I had no idea it had a name until Bone mentioned it.
