Re: What are you playing?
That is one of the things that a lot of people have issues with when it comes to Suda 51 and his titles. There are design choices that make people scratch their head like those little jobs. Things start to really speed up as you progress through the game and there is some incentive to play the game again.
The second game is a huge improvement over the first, as there is no longer a sandbox exploration aspect. Sure the silly, meaningless jobs are there, but they are now down in a quirky 8-bit style and some are genuinely fun. It is a huge improvement.

Yeah the biggest WTF was the day job money requirement junk. But I realized if you just do one of those per chapter it unlocks a high paying assassin job so you can just go do that instead. I've noticed the pace has picked up already too, which is a good thing. My first session with this game had me shaking my head, but a three hour session last night had me hungry for more. I went ahead and secured a copy of the sequel.

Great choice, you will not be disappointed. I fell in love with the game when the phone calls were done in the Wii-mote speaker.

Yeah the first time my Wii Remote started ringing like a phone I was kind of taken aback. So I picked it up and held it to my ear and indeed it was a phone call. Then the sexy lady with the French accent started telling me I was going to die in the garden of madness and my soul would burn in purgatory forever. I think I love her.

Re: What are you playing?
I just started up Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker. I've wanted it since release but hadn't pulled the trigger until now. I had more than enough trade credit at EB so I thought, why not? So far, it's awesome sauce.
Now I remember why these were my favorite segments of Super Mario 3D World.

Re: What are you playing?
About 10 hours into Resonance of Fate and I have to say it's getting pretty damn boring. Everything feels like a remedial task and the dungeon setup just isn't doing it for me. I went in expecting to save the world not be the town electrician, delivery boy, and general handy man
.
Also started up Omerta - City of Gangsters about 8 hours in and after 6 or so scenarios it just feels way to simple. It's really hard to fail at managing a city since there isn't much to really keep track of 90 percent of the buildings just generate a never ending stream of revenue and require little to no upkeep. The combat is also pretty poorly setup all missions so far have been send a squad of 2-4 guys to take out 5-20+ enemies who are usually better equipped then you are and only have slightly less HP. Loved when I popped into a mission against the KKK and suddenly 2-3 enemies per map had automatic weapons that could send AoE damage across an entire room
. Luckily your characters only die if they get knocked out 3 or more times, but out of the 8 characters I have only 1 can revive people and that is only once per mission so if people on your team start biting the dust you are quickly overwhelmed. Overall it's pretty crappy, but I'm going to power through it. Glad I only paid $3 for it.

Re: What are you playing?
Scratching the JRPG itch with SMT: Persona for PSP, which i'm playing on Vita. I'd heard that the game is pretty grindy, which it most certainly is, with encounters every few steps, but i really like the setting, and things like the negotiations with demons are pretty cool, and the fact that all the characters can equip a firearm alongside the usual swords etc. is fairly unique. Also it's good to see that the guns aren't completely useless since i can pair them with bullets that have special effects like charm etc.
I hear that the PSP remake has some parts that make it much more user-friendly, but not having played the original, i can't compare, but i like things like auto-battle for the grinding, as well as the auto-replay which repeats your last set of actions. i also heard that the map was redesigned over the original, and even though there aren't that many locations, i find it quite compelling to explore - there's just something about the way it looks that grabs my attention, much more than the map in Persona 3 Portable.
I also find that being locked into the choice of 1 out of several extra characters for what seems like the whole playthrough is quite interesting (haven't finished yet though, so i don't know if you can change later). I think i'm fairly far in, according to a walkthrough i glanced at, and i'm also looking forward to replaying and doing the Snow Queen Quest, which was cut from the original when it was released in the West on PSOne.
Definitely impressed, and weirdly i'm enjoying it more than P3P. The best part is that i got it for only 3 Euros in the recent PSN sale!

I... I... I don't know...
I finished KOTOR 2 and now I'm stuck. Do I continue in that style and play Jade Empire? Or do I try and tackle something completely different? I mean, my Steam games list grows at a rate that really outpaces my ability to keep up with it.
Kinda torn between trying GTA III again, trying to finish up either D. Dragon Neon or Castle Crashers, or something completely different.

Play Jade Empire! I love that game and I'm convinced it deserves your attention.

Juggling a few things....
Rocksmith 2014 - a fantastic guitar tutorial program; not really a "video game" in the traditional sense. I wish there was an equivalent for keyboards. Yes, I know about the NES "Miracle Piano" or whatever it is.
Kirby's Adventure - another playthrough as my daughter requested it.
Donkey Kong Jr. and Mario Bros. (2600) - I'm oddly terrible at both, but I'm determined to finish them.
Ys: Memories of Celceta - Slowly making my way through this one (finally). Putting in about an hour per evening. Mixed feelings so far, honestly.
