Hmm good question. I would say that maybe you know someone really close that will let you stash the games for awhile. Storage units can really add up. I lived away at my university for awhile and would always keep my stuff at my dad's house.

Circuitry and optical media are not meant to be stored in uncontrolled temperature / humidity environments. You are inviting degradation if you do so. If you truly care about your stuff, rent a climate controlled storage unit for it.

Ogre Battle 64 lets you save to either the cart or a memory card.

So, does the memory card have a battery or not? What happens if the battery in the memory cart dies? 64 is a 20yr old system, I doubt the batteries are still ticking in the carts.

I believe it does, there was someone on here a few months ago selling modded N64 memory cards that used flash memory so it entirely got rid of batteries.

And you would be surprised how long coin cell batteries work. The majority of my NES games have never had their batteries replaced, and yet they're all still working just fine. One of these days I'm going to get a few dozen batteries and just go through and replace everything, but for now I'm okay.

Here's my random gaming thought about The Witcher 3:

It's actually really cool that Geralt's beard grows over time. It really gives that been-tracking-monsters-through-the-wilderness feel.

The funny part is that the more his beard grows, the more he looks like Jeff Bridges. I consider this a positive aspect of the game!

I used to think that, but it requires a change in mentality in how you approach your backlog. Focus on first getting that positive trend. Beat more than you buy. Try to mix up long games vs. short games.

Rules also help. Set rules for yourself and follow them strictly!

For example, only buy a new game after you beat 1, 2, 3, 5 or even 10 games. You'll be beating games more frequently and you'll be buying games that you truly enjoy.

Also, don't discount hard games just because they are hard. Keep at it and push through and you might actually make some progress. And progress brings on more progress. And after progress is the end of the game.

And if you are really getting into backlogging, you can begin to purge some of your collection. Why have a game that you don't like or ever play? Why keep playing a game that you hate? You don't need them and you can move onto better games.

I used to be in a lot worse shape, but I changed focus and really began to look critically at my collection and games. Pretty soon, I went from 175 Unfinished Games down to under 100.
