I listened to a podcast on ESPN called "The Best of Mike and Mike". It was a five second commercial for Subway. Whoever edited this one nailed it.
Pretty sure I need to purchase and ride a penny farthing.

Now THIS is creepy. I luckily haven't had it this bad.BogusMeatFactory wrote: I have been victim of sleep paralysis 3 times in my life. The first was when I was a kid. I was in my room sleeping and woke up, unable to move, but could look out into the living room and saw 4 kids playing and laughing. My heart rate was incredibly high and I was freaking out.
The second happened about 2 years ago and I woke up to watch this enormous man/creature limping carrying an enormous axe. I screamed absolute murder when I was able to move, but it was the most frightening thing I have ever seen.
The third happened around the same time and it was me waking up to a man just watching me. Again, I screamed bloody murder.
Turns out I had sleep apnea and that enhances the possibility of sleep paralysis. Went to the doctor, did a sleep study, got a C-Pap machine and never had those problems again.

Adosmond what you describe sounds like classic SP, except the "familiar voice" part. Any idea what it was singing insofar as actual words?

I get sleep paralysis when I sleep on my back. Which I rarely do.
I had it frequently as a child though. I would generally see a vision of a....... dog.

I would like to know the psychology behind getting super scared from looking at images of ghosts or ghost like creatures. All humans get scared of noise in the night, illusions, dark etc but none of this ever hurt any one physically. So why get scared?BogusMeatFactory wrote:The first was when I was a kid. Re: Random Thoughts Thread
It is actually a part of the neurology of sleep paralysis. You are awake, you know that you are awake, but are in this transition from awake/alert and asleep. You are aware that you are awake and yet you hallucinate, like a dream is bleeding through and you can't move, because of muscle atonia, which increases that panic. You don't have a choice, but if you see someone in your room in the middle of the night, why wouldn't you freak out. I saw a large lumbering person shape with an axe in my room, I screamed. I see a person in my room, I scream. Not saying they were ghosts, because I know what was wrong, but it is still a frightening experience.RCBH928 wrote:I would like to know the psychology behind getting super scared from looking at images of ghosts or ghost like creatures. I saw someone who was not my wife in my room. You know it isn't a dream, because it isn't, you are aware and conscious. Yes it is a hallucination and after the fact, I am fine, but wake up with a guy in your room who you have never seen and you would be alarmed.

I don't remember at all what the voice was singing, as far as actual words go. I don't even remember it being a familiar song. It was a peaceful song thou, as if it was trying to calm me down during my struggle to move.Exhuminator wrote:Adosmond what you describe sounds like classic SP, except the "familiar voice" part. I second this. The fear comes from the fact that you're conscious and you can't move. Sure I wasn't hurt, but that feeling of helplessness because I couldn't move combined with me trying to move, I guess you could say there was a kind of physical component to it.BogusMeatFactory wrote:It is actually a part of the neurology of sleep paralysis. I also only experience SP in the morning, maybe 7-8am, which makes it creepier/scarier IMO.
