Do you pave your system in between every gaming session? The absolute worst case you have to do all of that ONCE per game. I meant ONCE per game. As in when you first set the game up on your PC. It's still annoying to do that stuff every time you install a new PC game though.MrPopo wrote:The absolute worst case you have to do all of that ONCE per game.
Or at least it used to be, but that's from a historical perspective.
PC games have become much more install 'n' play than they used to be. I'm aware of that, and have experienced it with newer releases. So I'm not in any way slanting PC gaming. I still love PC gaming and totally understand why it's back in vogue so strongly these days.

In this case its obvious that this is sarcasm, but the amount of times I've been called retarded asking if a game has controller support, or been told to stop gaming because I can't use a M/KB, etc. God help anybody who ever used a controller in an online game too.Ack wrote:What's this? My main issue with PC gaming, and everything going digital, is that it depends on having an internet connection. There's the whole "I don't actually own my games" argument also. Right now I have a steady, decent connection, but if I want a game over 1 gig I might be waiting days. And when school's done, I might end up somewhere where you can't even get internet.

Yeah this is my situation as well, PC gaming is great and all but if it is not from GoG i don't see myself buying digital games and my internet conection is good for youtube and 1 gigs files but since some games now take 15 to 30 gigs (or even more) i will leave my machine on for days before i can play and it would suck all the bandwith in the process. Also i really like the how the boxes/cartridges look on the shelf and if the game is bad or i don't like it i can trade it/sell it. Also i turn off the wifi conection on my PS3 i don't care for patches unless is a really breakng glitch.Forlorn Drifter wrote: My main issue with PC gaming, and everything going digital, is that it depends on having an internet connection. I have found in my life a couple of douches who say "you're not a true pc gamer if you dont buy the new graphics card from nvidea/ati every two months to have a 0.5% better performance on those 2 games that you are never going to play"... actually that was just one douche. Screw that guy that i never met in real life.

No argument here, sadly. I hate that I'm always online with the new ones and always connected to others, etc. Honestly this is a weird thing I've always disliked about Steam, having had it since it's earlier incarnation... I don't even know who 80% of the people on my friends list are anymore. Guess I could just delete most of them, but yeah. Same thing happened to my Xbox/360 profile, but I've kept it extremely limited and strict on my Sony consoles. I've got like two people on the Wii U... that and the lack of "achievements", I love how it feels disconnected and like I'm finally alone again and away from everyone else, totally free and in a quiet place.Exhuminator wrote:I doubt the way you envision consoles to be will last beyond the One/PS4 generation, unfortunately.Xeogred wrote:Consoles for life suckas.
I hate this about phones and social media too though and basically the world in general right now, so sadly modern consoles/PC's are no different in this regard.

That, and GOG let's members download all installation files for them to do with as they wish, so you can store them on physical media, on email servers, on hard drives or flash drives, etc., meaning you don't need access to GOG and can make as many copies of the game as you like, all DRM free.noiseredux wrote:You know Steam has an offline mode right?

I basically agree. And this is why I'm thrilled to see that WRPGs are available on consoles now.Exhuminator wrote: In my late teens and early twenties I was nearly 100% about PC gaming. But now that modern consoles have mandatory installs and system updates and automatic patching, you can spend 30 minutes just watching progress bars crawl across the screen after you pop a new game disc in your machine anyway. So from an initial time investment perspective it might as well be a PC nowadays.
In terms of interface and functionality, GOG absolutely owns Steam. No question about it. But from what I can tell they really seem to be dedicated to two different subsets of gaming. GOG is for those good old games (haha) while is Steam is for all dat indie and current gen stuff. I have occasionally found certain games that are available on both GOG and Steam. When that's the case I see absolutely no reason to even consider the Steam version.Ack wrote: That, and GOG let's members download all installation files for them to do with as they wish, so you can store them on physical media, on email servers, on hard drives or flash drives, etc., meaning you don't need access to GOG and can make as many copies of the game as you like, all DRM free.

Actually, GOG has gotten really big on the indie scene as well. There are a lot of indie games available as well as classic titles, with more and more coming out. And as they get bigger, they negotiate new contracts with bigger devs, so maybe we will see more AAA stuff in the future.
