Sega Master System Questions and Introductions

Post by molotovwars »

To begin, yes I have read Racketboy's Sega Master System 101. I recently picked up a very good steal on some SMS stuff, $10 for the system, light phaser, 3D Glasses (boxed!!!!), and 14 boxed games. I already have another SMS and a few games (nothing special) at my house, but I really don't know a lot about it.

The 14 games that I picked up were (all boxed, some with instructions):

Rambo: First Blood Part II
Gangster Town
Ghostbusters
Choplifter
World Grand Prix
Double Dragon
Bomber Raid (Black Box by Activision?)
Altered Beast
Missile Defense 3-D (with boxed 3-D Glasses)
Hang On/Safari Hunt
Shinobi
Out Run
After Burner
Zillion II

After going through Racket's game articles on the SMS, I was just going to keep the last 5 games I listed (Hang On/Safari Hunt, Shinobi, Out Run, After Burner, and Zillion II) and sell off the rest. Any of the others worth the space on my shelf?

I am going to sell the 3-D Glasses with Missile Defense 3-D, but noticed that Missile Defense 3-D requires the Light Phaser - are there any two player games that use the Light Phaser. Basically I have two light phasers, but if there aren't any games that use two, then there isn't any reason to keep both of them, so one could be sold with that above set I mentioned.

Anyone know why Bomber Raid is in a non-standard box. I really liked how all of the SMS games looked like they belonged together, all white with mostly standard fonts and the checkered pattern and a little bit of art for each game, then this ugly piece of shit is all black with non-standard logos and all sorts of terrible. Answers?

If anyone has interest in the first bunch of games I listed, I'd be glad to trade/sell.

Try Missle Defense 3D with the gun and glasses a few times before deciding to sell those items off. Better yet, get a copy of Maze Hunter 3D and try that with the glasses too.

It was the last SG-1000 Mark III game in Japan.

Line of Fire (hold buttons 1 and 2 while switching the computer on for 3-D mode)
Maze Hunter 3-D
Missile Defense 3-D (also requires the Light Phaser gun)
Out Run 3-D (can also be played in 2-D mode without glasses)
Poseidon Wars 3-D (can also be played in 2-D mode without glasses)
Space Harrier 3-D

I may look into maze hunter, but I was definitely planning on testing it out since I've already got Missile Defense and a Light Phaser.

The 3D glasses and compatible games really do work wonderfully. Beleive it or not, those glasses are one of the least hokey peripherals ever made for a video game system because they really do work well! The game library which exploits the the 3D feature is woefully small, however. I'm now on a quest to collect them all, I only have 4 more to go!

Keep Double Dragon! 2p goodness, love the sprite taxing!

I remember two other games with black (or at least non-white) box art. I thought they were all the Activision games. I figured it was because the games were thrid party releases.
