I find Sonic Adventure to be almost unplayable. As Bogus said, the controls and camera are just terrible.ExedExes wrote:So was it safe to say the Sonic series was beginning its descent *earlier* than the 2006 abomination? The first SA was a huge hit, safe to say.

Seconded. I don't like any Sonic game after "& Knuckles". I do tolerate Advance 1 (never played Advance 2, did not like Advance 3), nor could I stand even the lately acclaimed Sonic Colors. Yawn. Imo, the 8 and 16 bit games are all we need of Sonic.SpoonyBard wrote:I find Sonic Adventure to be almost unplayable. I tried to play the first SA 1 about 3 months ago. Before then i did remember the sometimes wonky camera etc. I just didnt remember it been that bad. Perhaps it was my Sega Sonic Goggles Loyalty goggles. I stopped play however my nephew loves the game. Right now im playing Bluestinger. Yes i know the camera. However, to me its just a minor annoyance really. Im at the end but had to backtrack to indulge on some Sushi Plates and Steak Plates to increase my energy gauge and get dogs his bazooka. What a game i tell you. Where else do you see a dead stripper on a stage...lol..
Curtsy when you walk by that Dreamcast

Sonic Colors is OK, in my opinion, but I find it criminally overrated, whist Sonic Lost World I find criminally underrated. Both pale in comparison to the quality of the classic Genesis/Mega Drive games, but at least they scrapped playing as Sonic's buddies (or werewolfs or other gimmicks).o.pwuaioc wrote:nor could I stand even the lately acclaimed Sonic Colors. Sonic Generations was amazing fun though and the best 3D Sonic game in my opinion.

Re: How is your Dreamcast gaming going on?
Awhile back I acquired SF III Third Strike from another member here. I love the DC lineup of Capcom fighters but still needed a few. I read a lot of praise for this one but honestly I think it's my least favorite so far on the system. The fighters seem really heavy and difficult to move compared to, for example, SF Alpha 3. Also for some reason I was having trouble even throwing fireballs, which has not been a problem in any game since I bought the old girl on 9/9/99. I don't get it. I was really looking forward to owning this one especially based on people's assessments of it.

I find Alpha 3 more enjoyable than Third Strike. I'm not particularly an expert of Street Fighter or Capcom fighters in general though. In fact, I just plain suck at them. I don't find Marvel vs. Capcom 2 anywhere near as enjoyable as most people, for example. I dislike how unbalanced and unfair it feels. I also dislike how little damage moves seem to make. It feels like you have to land a thousand moves just to KO someone.

I always felt Alpha 3 was way too airy, haha. I too felt that 3S was too slow. Believe me, once you get used to parrying, 3rd Strike gets a lot faster.Snatch1414 wrote:The fighters seem really heavy and difficult to move compared to, for example, SF Alpha 3.
Stick with 3rd Strike for awhile, when you get into the groove it's a really satisfying game to play.

SFA3 is like my perfect SF game. It's got all the classic characters and the modern touches which I enjoy.

I agree wholeheartedly! I have always been attracted more to the Alpha series, putting in limitless hours into Alpha 2 on the Saturn. One of the few games where I seriously went and saw every ending for every character, because I loved the game that much.ExedExes wrote:SFA3 is like my perfect SF game. Now, 3rd strike is a much more complex and fulfilling game, though. I always liken the Alpha series to your favorite pizza. It has a little bit of everything and is just so yummy.
3rd Strike is like fine dining. Refined, tantalizing to the palette, but not everyone gets the appeal.

Yeah based on the responses here it seems Third Strike is a little more nuanced, which I'm certainly not opposed to. I'll have to just make some legitimate time for it.SpoonyBard wrote:I always felt Alpha 3 was way too airy, haha. I too felt that 3S was too slow. In regards to other comments above, I did love Alpha 3 as well. I loved the tour mode. I would say that's probably the pinnacle of just straight up SF as well.
I like MvsC2 very much, though I do view it as a fast food version of a 2D fighter. Still a ton of fun though, and it's the first game I think of when I sob about too much DLC these days. The number of unlockables was great.
I actually enjoy Capcom vs SNK much more (haven't played the sequel). I guess Marvel stuff is just more popular, but I find it odd CvsSNK isn't mentioned more. They got everything right in that game in my opinion, and it was made with love. Stuff like Ryu throwing Terry his hat before the match starts was great. Kinda wish there was an English voice option because I'd like to know some of the little bits of dialogue, but other than that I thought it was a hall of fame class fighter.
