Component Cables for Atari 2600
Component Cables for Atari 2600
I have an Atari 2600 "Darth Vader" Edition and was wondering if anyone has detail instructions on hooking it up with a component audio and video cable? I am having an issue when I turn the system on, it picks up the audio from the TV channel it is set to work on. I have opened the console and made sure all connections are tight, and still I get a lot of interference. I have read some articles saying that modding the console to utilize an audio/visual cable makes the picture and sound awesome. I cannot find a detailed set of instructions on how to do this. If anyone has any ideas please let me know, or if anyone has any ideas on how to fix the problem without so much trouble, that'd be great too.

I don't think you can do component, but I know you can do composite. I've done it before. It's much better than the RF switcher, that's for sure. I'll see if I can find the guide I used.

Even if it were possible, I really think component cables on a 2600 would be overkill. Go for composite just because RF is total crap. That should be plenty. You might want to see if Old School Gamer can help you out with the mod:

Pretty sure this was the mod I did. http://web.archive.org/web/200504060831 ... 00vidm.htm
I remember now that I was using a commodore 1702 monitor, and just used the separate chroma/luma inputs on the thing. You could probably hook the Y/C up to a mini-din and plug it into an svideo port.

I agree about the overkill. The interference is just so ridiculous that we have to play on mute. This entire problem would be fixed if the atari could be played on channel 4. That would work with my cable box and then my picture wouldn't be so scrambled, which is why I thin there is interference. Sounds like this other type of mid might be the best option. I have no experience with this stuff though an that's why I need very detailed instructions.

man this is exactly what i need to do, but i just dont know enough about this stuff to attempt it without pictures...Hatta wrote:Pretty sure this was the mod I did. http://web.archive.org/web/200504060831 ... 00vidm.htm

Re: Component Cables for Atari 2600
while composite video would be better all around, if you're not the soldering type, a simple A/B switch might do the trick. the output from the coaxial A/B switch goes to your TV, and the coax from your box and the output of the atari each get hooked to A or B. that way instead of overriding a channel, you're cutting it off completely.

Need FreeMCboot? I'll install it on your PS2 Memory Card for free if you cover postage both ways.
