Legit brand new DS Lites are not that cheap in today's market. I would strongly advise you not to buy gaming hardware from a Chinese seller on eBay.

Do not buy.
So many signs point to $72 never being seen again or towards a $10-to-make knock off.

Not super worried about it. If it's not a new DS I'd just get a refund from paypal. Was just curious. Has the DSL even been cloned?
I think the worse it would be would be a clever "refurb" with a knock off system case and box.

Fake DS Lites have been a thing since at least 2011.fuctfuct wrote:I think the worse it would be would be a clever "refurb" with a knock off system case and box.

Chances are you might get a functioning unit. Except the buttons might be mushier than the real thing. The screens might have more motion blur than the real thing. The battery might be sub-par compared to the real thing. The touch screen might not be as instantaneous reactive as the real thing. Basically all the side effects you can think of with a knock off could be there.
Or maybe it will be perfect. That's a chance too.
I recommend buying a mint condition used Cobalt & Black DS Lite though. Those were the best DS Lites Nintendo ever made. They have the absolute best screens, and a matte finish on the bottom which makes holding them quite nice.
Either way, the DS Lite is amazing system, you're guaranteed tons of fun as long as you get one that works.

I bought one for myself a month ago, absolutely loved the thing so I got myself anotherExhuminator wrote: I recommend buying a mint condition used Cobalt & Black DS Lite though. Sorry if this is a stupid question, but is it really just the Cobalt & Black DS Lites that were the best? Like a Crimson & Black won't do? I feel silly asking, but I figured maybe there's something to em, kinda like how people have their preference of fat versus slim PS2s and all.

Re: New DS Lite really this cheap?
Different models of DS Lites received different screens from different manufacturers. The Crimson & Black models had some of the worst screens, if not the worst. They are prone to severe yellow tinting, especially the bottom screen, and also have unsaturated colors compared to other models of DS Lites. There's a reason Nintendo bundled the Crimson & Black DS Lite with Brain Age and New Super Mario Bros., Nintendo was trying to clear the things out of stock before too many people noticed the quality issues.adosmond wrote:Like a Crimson & Black won't do?
I have owned multiple models of nearly every version of the DS Lite. Trust me, the Cobalt & Black is where it's at. It's got strong colors, neutral whites, and barely any LCD lag motion blur. It's also got the brightest LED lighting overall.
If you can't find one, you can try getting an original Onyx Black or Polar White DS Lite. They had really strong colors and deep blacks. The only problem with them is the motion blur LCD lag is quite prominent on darker games, and they are the most prone to having a stuck pixel.

Interesting. I do have a Polar White, and I did notice that it has better colors, just looks better overall than my Navy Blue one. I just figured that it was just because it was more beat up/used/whatever than the other.. good to know. Thanks for the info!Exhuminator wrote:Different models of DS Lites received different screens from different manufacturers. The Crimson & Black models had some of the worst screens, if not the worst. Re: New DS Lite really this cheap?
I had no idea about different screens on certain models. I have three DS Lites: a silver one, the Mario edition (refurb'd from Nintendo and is mint), and the gold Zelda model (same as the Mario). Lites are great because of the backwards compatible GBA slot.
