What really hit me today though, was what an absolute colossal waste the Fox Engine will more than likely turn out to be. It's completely obvious that Kojima was looking to the future and had bigger plans for the whole company, this is probably why it took a decade to get a sequel to MGS4 and I wonder if they even spent more time on it than Phantom Pain itself. Now... it'll be probably be used for one game and Konami probably won't license it out to anyone. But hey, maybe they'll scale it down to mobile?

Fox engine is used for Winning Eleven/Pro Evo so they'll get some use out of it. But yeah, otherwise agree. All these Japanese companies throwing the towel in because they can't sell old brands with COD numbers but are also too scared to commit to anything new. Real shame and poor management.

Sad thing is they're not alone. Check the press in the last 48~hours. Square-Enix is doing the same thing, just not as extreme, yet. They're shifting most of their resources over to mobile gaming, dropped news of a new Kingdom Hearts games just for Android/iOS formats too. They said something like their profits went up exponentially company wide thanks only to mobile gaming and the FF/DQ MMORPGS, while the console stuff was dragging them even further, yet the MMOs and mobile was so much it increased their gains. Total bait to make the switch, just not copping to it yet. Maybe they'll just stop making console games other than Final Fantasy before too long along with the MMOs before too long.

I would be totally fine if people dropped consoles for mobile, if mobile included a dedicated handheld device and perhaps also PC ports too. I just don't like buying a digital rental for a few years until they decide I got my moneys worth and erase it from the servers. That ticks me off and is why I support GoG.com 100%.

With Konami bailing and SquareEnix following that route too, anyone want to bet Capcom is next or maybe another?
