Except shared property, joint bank accounts, mutual investments, alimony... basically anything that has financial value. These things do matter on paper. Lawsuits can arise down the road in regards to these matters, especially in regards to interest drawing portfolios like a Roth IRA for example. "He said, she said" doesn't mean much at that point.

You know, I'm surprised our friendly neighborhood lawyer hasn't come in to dispense some advice.

I'm getting real fed up with listening to the people who comment on politics professionally. (Is there a word for them? I guess political commenter would be the most appropriate term)

But Bill Maher especially. I have a few Facebook friends who share his stuff, and the guy is a complete ass. He might have a nugget of worthwhile insight on occasion, but the majority of his stuff, from what I've seen, is inflammatory hate spewing.

Late to the party I know, but I will give my two cents and help reinforce some of the things people have been saying. Dave, I helped my brother through a horrible divorce and helped him strike the first blow as he felt like something bad was going to happen. There is nothing wrong with getting legal advice and consultation with lawyers. Some do it for free and I encourage finding them.

It never helps to do research and learn what is within your right and how to prepare for things when things do turn south.

I, of course, am a firm advocate of therapy and repair of a relationship, if there is in fact repair that can be done. Some relationships just fall apart and it is natural, but I always like to think there is a chance and if they have the time, money and desire to do so, go for it.

I am sorry to hear you are going through this Dave, so I hope that things do turn out well for you and everyone, including your kids come out happy.

All political commentary is inflammatory hate spew, the difference comes down to whether or not you are on the same political side as the commentator in question.

I wouldn't say all of it. There is a line somewhere. Some of the commentators I've heard, that aren't national scale, maybe state level or some such, sometimes a bit bigger, who are very careful in how they word things, or otherwise try to take a middle stance and show both sides equally with the given information.

Out of big names, I think of say, Colbert. He was obviously aligned against me, but he always had lines he wouldn't cross when he was discussing or commenting on things.
