Anyone here a fan of the Tales games?

Post by KayJay »

I recently played Tales of Vesperia on the 360. I've never been a JRPG fan, and although i liked a couple (Dragon Quest 8 & 9 are amazing, & Pokemon too) i never really got into the genre. I always felt it was a little too bloated, and didn't involve the players enough.

Boy, was i wrong. Tales of Vesperia is one of the best, if not the best, game i have ever played. Even when it finished, i didn't want it to end. I played for a good week after i beat it, which i never, ever do. Now, I'm playing Tales of Symphonia, and loving it. IMO, not as good as Vesperia, but still amazing. :D I've also played Abyss, but it wasn't my cup of tea. Not a bad game, just not the best.

Anyways, I've had my eye out on Xillia, because it looks really interesting. Anyone have any suggestions for a new "Tales of" series lover? what was your experience with the series?

Some of them, never been big on them. Tales of Symphonia and Tales of the Abyss I found to be quite good, as was one of those dungeon questing(1st of 2?) on the PSP wasn't bad either. Also I did get the UK-English import of Tales of Eternia on the PSP which was fun.

I own quite a few of them. The most recent one I bought was Tales of Hearts R for Vita.

Have I played any of them? Not yet. They sure seem like a nice idea though.

I have the game but never got around to playing it. I've read good reviews and like you I have no experience with previous Tales games. You're making me push it up on my backlog list after FFXHD

The only one I ever really liked was DuckTales for NES.

I nabbed Vesperia at a thrift store for $5 and honestly I was really liking it until something weird happened: I couldn't beat the first mini-boss (crazy looking guy with red hair I think). I don't know what it was, it was like it was the first time I ever played a video game. I couldn't figure out the damn controls. I would like to try again sometime because I have no idea what the hell happened and I'm not gonna blame the game for it, I just had a colossal brain fart I guess.

yeah, that's Zagi. dude's pretty tough, i had to lower my difficulty to beat him. You can lower difficulty and raise it at any time though, so if your ever stuck, just do that.

I have only played (and beat) tales of hearts r for the vita and thought it was a great game. It was fun throughout, the battle system was awesome, the characters were great and it didn't take itself too seriously. I am in no rush to play any others but I will try to pick up tales of symphonia for GameCube as soon as I can.

I like some of the Tales games - Phantasia and Symphonia are excellent.

But overall the series has something of a quantity over quality vibe - all of the games are way too long, and there's too many of them and not enough to differentiate each installment from the next.
