I bought all my NES Mega Mans (Men?) one day in 2010 off Amazon, each one of them was under $20 including shipping except for MM5 which was $30, and I almost didn't buy it because I really didn't think any NES game should be more than $20. Man am I glad I bought it haha, though I wish I had bought Bucky Ohare when it was $20-$25 :(

Mega Man 5 is how much? Oh, good grief. Man, I think I might sell my spare copy on eBay or something. I'm pretty sure that'd edge me towards that Turbo Duo I've always wanted.

The same thing happened to me with Metal Storm, and for the same price. I thought $30 for a NES game was ridiculous. Really goddamned happy I talked myself into buying it when I did.

LOL fair enough on the cart cannibalization, but I have a thing for some personalized software. Additionally, there's cost saving benefits to doing it. For example, the SNES shells I used came from sports games I picked out of the dollar bin at the local pawn shop, and doing the shell swap meant I was able to pick up MMX and Super Metroid in "Beat to holy hell" condition for ~$10 each.

I'd love to pick up Mega Man 4-6 at some point, but the price of 5 is absurd and I guess I'll just be happy firing up the PS2 Anniversary Collection from time to time...

An already dead cartridge shell maybe, but I agree with Sarge, it'd bother me more than just having the Japanese game.

Easy solution:
http://www.infiniteneslives.com/kazzo.php <-- Cart reader/writer ($20, up to $30 for NES+FC+SNES)
http://www.infiniteneslives.com/snessupplies.php <-- New board with right chips on it to flash a game to permanently. ($20-26 for the board)

They also do sell snap together pirate style SNES game shells if you don't care it to be 100% correct.

Then (all over, just google it) buy a new shell on the off market, or if you can find a dead existing game or dollar sports title no one is going to miss. Then to keep the look fairly right, make a label that looks almost dead on accurate to a SNES game as possible and take it to Kinkos/Fedex or Office Depot and have them use glossy/matte label paper and the paper be the right kind meant for a laser printer and have it run off on that. It'll come off being damn near if not right up convincing of a match to a later 'made in mexico' cheaper non-laminate SNES label. Stick that on the cart(maybe re-inforce it with the kids wet purple, dries clear elmers glue stick) and you're done.

That's how to make a good solid cheap bootleg of a SNES cart without paying some clown a huge price for it on ebay.

Sarge: You think the $80 for the MM5 cart is kind of bad. You can sell the MM5 manual for just over $40. I did it a month ago with little effort at $45 on ebay to help fund PinBot. I wanted to keep it, but I have little attachment to the game on the whole compared to 2-4 so it was worth it. :)

If I could bring myself to get rid of it, I actually have a complete copy of MM5. :D

Well there ya go, sounds like motivation to me. 2 copies of the same game, 1 complete one copy. Hmm...

Oh, I'd keep the complete copy, honestly. That's the one I got when I was a kid, so I've got a touch more attachment to it. I'm pretty sure I got it at a Kay Bee Toys. That's also where I snagged MM6, but on a completely different trip.

I think if I didn't have any mega man games I would go the rockman series because of price, that being said I'm missing mega man 5 for nes & mega man 4 for game boy for my collection so I'd rather have mega man. I'd also like to have mega man x4 for Saturn (I have the case so I only need the disc) and mega man 8 for Saturn as well but I can't bring myself to pay those prices.

Are there different versions of MM 1? I have a complete copy but I remember reading somewhere that there were different print runs

I always collect NA (cause it's where I live), but some collector's will argue for the aesthetic value of Japanese games with their better box art, label art, etc. With Super Famicom games I like that they look like VHS boxes

Took me years to get a decent condition, CIB Mega Man X 3 but when I see the Japanese version I sometimes think that would have looked nicer in my collection
