IMO, there are very few truly classic games based on films. They are:
Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay (XBOX);
GoldenEye 007 (N64); and
Star Wars (ARCADE);
Tron (ARCADE).
That's really about it...and these four classics are not enough to off set the fact that so many games based on movies rank among the worst of all time. Accordingly - and as a general rule - games based on movies are grouped towards the lower end of the bell curve with regard to quality.
There are more truly classic Star Wars games than that. Rogue Squadron and XWing vs Tie Fighter come to mind. Super Star Wars series debatably too.

...for shame.
Is it really though a movie game. Sure it is in a world from a movie franchise, but it really is stand alone.
Also, I just want to say Ack, your playthrough of Dark Forces definitely inspired me to fire it up again. I love this game and haven't beaten it since I was a teenager. On the final level and it is so good!

You are welcome, young padawan.
I'll probably give Jedi Outcast a go later this year.

Yeah I picked up a slew of them through Steam, because I had a lot of credit and the games were incredibly cheap. Sure I have physical copies of Dark Forces and Dark Forces 2, but the mid-90's lucasarts games are such a pain to get running on a modern PC. Gonna definitely go through the whole series.

Oh I know, I have tons of stuff on GOG, but I just had a credit and jumped on the sale on Steam. I couldn't really spend any real cash, even if it was a couple bucks here and there. Things be tight!

So after the strange journey I had playing Cliffhanger and Last Action Hero I randomly popped in Home Alone for the Genesis. Now keep in mind I don't have the manual for this one (if you have it I'll happily throw you a few bucks) and didn't bother to look it up at the time, so I went in blind.
From playing the game all I know is you can sled ride while accomplishing one of two things: destroying snowmen which will let you grab unknown objects that do nothing, and run into invisible walls. I can't get off the sled, can't go into a house or a garage, nothing. While this is going on the Wet Bandits are robbing houses and once in awhile the screen will read "The Wet Bandits have looted this home. It is now flooded." What house they're talking about I have no idea. I can't get inside so I'm not sure what they expect me to do about it.
Then I got my sled stuck between the corner of a house and a car parked in the driveway and shut it off. I'm so intrigued to read the manual honestly.
