Yeah so this is basically the fourth Trailer Park Boys movie. It's practically pointless to watch if you haven't seen the series or understand the sense of humor of the main characters. As a treat to hardcore fans, it's actually alright.

If you saw this and you didn't have a frame of reference though, you'd probably think it's a horrible movie. And you would be correct in that case. Unless you just wanted to see a lot of penises. This movie has a thing for shoving penises in the camera's face.

As a knee jerk "up yours" to what the writers obviously see as an over-saturation of political correctness in today's media, I can certainly admire the film's gusto. It may or may not be correct, but it absolutely means what it's saying with full sincerity.

In the pointless scene where the kid went catatonic, and the other pointless scene where the kid sees a doctor, don't they actually say that he suffered a brain thingy from fear? His whole thing was that he was fearful of his other dying, which is repeated endlessly in the movie. Not sure how you can call that despair and not fear.

HOT PURSUIT

If Roger Ebert was still alive I believe he'd give this half a star. And he would be generous to do so.

Hey guys, watch TOP FIVE if you haven't. I don't remember much hype about it, so if you haven't heard of it I wouldn't be surprised. Check it out as you'll be in for a treat.

Pretty sure they thought Half Assed Script + Two Darlings = Gold. This movie fails the "Ebert Test" (would you rather watch the movie or have dinner with the leading actors?). Sofia Vergara is at her best when people write for her as herself. She's not a character actress. Just put her in a movie with no lines and say "action!". She'll pick it up from there. She's such a talk show host's dream and a natural at comedy that's it was so sad to see her in such a non-funny movie.

TOP FIVE is great. Chris Rock is the star of the film, but don't look any further. Just go ahead and see it when you have the time. I believe it was overlooked because the actors involved didn't really promote the movie, rather they promoted themselves, which makes sense after you see the movie. I find that to be only a coincidence and I'm sure the actors involved feel no compunction about doing so.

I always wondered who is crazy enough to invest so much money in such low quality movies. Also, out of the hundreds of scripts submitted to Hollywood, are these really the best ideas?

Nope. Because that's not how it works.

You have to look at it from an accounting perspective, meaning, if everyone gets paid and the movie makes a dollar over that, it is a success. The real money comes from licensing and merchandising.

I would suggest watching as many episodes of DINNER FOR FIVE as possible. Great show that is both entertaining and also shows how Hollywood works.

I finally got around to watching Age of Ultron this week.


Avengers 2 Age of Ultron
I made the mistake of letting myself get hyped up because I love Marvel. I shouldn't do that, because it results in inevitable disappointment. Yes, Avengers 2 was disappointing, but it's hard to nail down exactly why (aside from the aforementioned hype).

There's a lot to like in Age of Ultron. We have the snappy Whedon-esque dialogue. We have the fantastic action sequences one expects from a summer blockbuster. We have good editing and post. We have Scarlett Johansson's gorgeous face. We have a phalanx of Marvel super heroes and villains, too many in fact. Offhand, we have:

• Iron Man
• War Machine
• Hulk
• Hawkeye
• Black Widow
• Nick Fury
• Thor
• Heimdall
• Ultron
• Scarlet Witch
• Quicksilver
• Vision
• Falcon
• Maria Hill
• Peggy Carter
• Ulysses Klaw - no super powers yet
• Baron Wolfgang Von Strucker as generic German~ish villain number 1
• Dr. List as generic German~ish villain number 2
• Cameos from a couple people I don't recognize - presumably from Agents of Shield
• Thor's boring old man friend - the astrophysicist whose name I cannot recall.
• countless evil robots a.k.a. cannon fodder

With this many characters, no one gets enough screen time, except for Hawkeye - go figure. Thor abruptly goes on a lightning-fueled vision quest that somehow reveals to him the properties of the Infinity Stones so that we can set up the next two Avengers films. That scene felt like a late addition shoe-horned into the script. The only thing that sticks out as bad is Vision. He simply doesn't look right. Vision looks more like a Power Ranger than a Marvel Super Hero character. There's a reason that Vision doesn't appear in the trailer, the poster, or the other promotional material. When you see him, you'll know why.

Overall, the good far outweighs the bad in Age of Ultron. This ranks somewhere in the middle of Marvel movies and somewhere in the middle of Joss Whedon movies. That still puts Avengers 2 heads and shoulders above most films Hollywood churns out. It's just not as good as I was hoping. Somehow, I get the impression that even Joss Whedon is getting tired of the Avengers.
