2. Donkey Kong Country - The graphics and sound blew my mind when I first played this years ago, and it was a game I played for Xmas too, which made it special. You always remember games you got to play during Christmas when you were young.
3. Donkey Kong Country 2 - Unlike the first, I actually got ALL the collectibles and stuff in this one, and had a lot of fun doing it
I actually HATE the modern DKC games, the spirit of the originals are completely lost in them. It's like those movies where someone gets body snatched, you know something's off.
4. Battletoads in Battlemaniacs - Probably the only Battletoads game that I could beat, well unless you count the arcade game which you can credit feed through. Much more accessible than the super hard NES original, that's not to say it's an easy game though. I have some extra love for this game too because I actually have a CIB copy of it. Getting harder and harder to get complete, SNES games these days.
5. Conkey's Bad Fur Day - It was so amazing to play such an ADULT mascot platformer back then. There were some hilarious moments in this game and some really awesome movie parodies. It wasn't perfect though, some parts were frustrating to play and some of the humor was BAD (a giant, singing pile of shit? Really?). But to this day, it's hard to find a mascot platformer as filthy, offensive, adult, and full of attitude as this game. What? Sonic games had attitude. Bitch please.
Runner Ups:
RC Pro Am - I used to love this game...until I played Rock n Roll racing which completely made RC Pro Am irrelevant
Super Battletoads - An an arcade game, it's everything you know about Battletoads ramped up to 11. Unfortunately, like many arcade brawlers it's unreasonably cheap...and that's coming from a series already very hard on consoles mind you. It's still worth playing though, as you'll find no other Battletoads game with better graphics and sound or as over the top (you can LITERALLY bust someone's balls LOL). And apparently, there are some insane players who can 1cc it:
Sweet, another VP lover! I agree, that game is so unique and amazing. I highly recommend you check out the DS port. It has some problems, but it's still a pretty solid way to play VP on the go.
Currently Playing: Hatsune Miku Project Diva F 2nd (PS3)

I keep meaning to do that. I've played both 360 games and enjoyed them, but I keep forgetting about the DS one.

Seriously. Screw you Shao Kahn I'm gonna play Animal Crossing.
Rare is hit-or-miss. They have some shittay games, but when they got it right.... damn.
Donkey Kong Country is one of the best platformers of all time. Right after Super Mario World. I haven't yet played parts 2 and 3 because I am a failure as a human being.
Also - GoldenEye and Perfect Dark are fantastic FPS games, and probably the best ones ever designed specifically for consoles.
Blast Corps and Jet Force Gemini are N64 classics. I've never tried those Banjo games, DK64 scared me off a bit.
DK64 was abysmal with the size of the areas, backtracking and the 5x over (per ape) collectathon junk going on to create a game of huge lengths of time involved. Banjo (either) on N64 do what DK64 did but in a smaller dose. You only had a lot of crap to collect once in an area, and so much had to be done to be able to leave the one you're in, but then it was right back to it after you're into the next. That was my problem, there wasn't as much a set way to enjoy the stage, it was run and grab everything everywhere, to then wash rinse repeat around the story sprinkled between that time eating stuff. Banjo games are far better than DK64 but unless you love grabbing 100s of things you're better off playing Conker to get the feel for their design work without the harassment.
And I do agree with you on goldeneye/pd for the time, but not currently, they've not aged so well. They're still fun enough, but they're pretty stiff. Blast Corps holds up today still very nicely and surprisingly they've never done a thing with it since or some fan making a good knockoff either.
1 or 2: Goldeneye 007 or Perfect Dark. I keep flip-flopping on which one of these is better. Goldeneye has better single player, but Perfect Dark has better multiplayer.
3: Killer Instinct. How many other fighting games have a dinosaur, a werewolf, a killer robot, and skeleton warrior?
4: Donkey Kong Country. Liked this a lot as a kid.
5: Star Fox Adventures? I haven't played enough Rare games.
I simply cannot list 5 games by Rare because there are just so many, especially on the NES, but there is a serious lack of Captain Skyhawk up in this thredzzle.
