Super Famicom AV2HDMI problem

Post by Synnae »

Hello guys!

So... I just bought an AV2HDMI converter plus an HDMI cable to make my Super Famicom work on an LCD TV without composite ports.

But when I connected everything and set my TV to the HDMI "channel" no image appeared at all. I have two LCD TV's and I tested the stuff on both of them, but none of the two worked. One of the TV's even have 3 HDMI "channels" and I tested all of them but no success.

That's how my converter looks like, I just took this photo with my phone:

The three Red/White/Yellow cables are from my SFC, and the black cable is the HDMI one. The other end is connected to my TV.

I'd like some help with this because I'm almost sure I'm doing everything right but things didn't work. What did I do wrong?

Doesn't that device need a power cable?

Also looks like there are counterfeit ones or something to beware of.

HDMI provides enough power to run an android device.
I'm afraid I don't know what the problem could be. I lent my similar looking VGA to HDMI box to my friend and it didn't work for his transcoder setup tho I didn't have any trouble getting it to work when I tried it on an old PC.

So... I solved the problem but ran into another one.

Seems like I just needed to connect the USB cable at the same time, now the converter is powered up and working, but...

The image being displayed isn't 720p/1080p, it's 720i/1080i. Despite the converter clearly saying "UP Scaler 1080p"

Does anyone know why it's giving interlaced image? Is it a problem because the console is too old, or is the converter just not working like it should?

Its up-scaling as it should. Its up-scaling an interlaced image to another larger interlaced image 720i/1080i. To convert to progressive you'd need a beefy piece of hardware to deinterlace a signal fast enough. Even the best equipment introduces a delay, which you'd class as "input lag"

...well, there's surely a lot to read.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but what I'd need is that first item that costs $307.51?

You bet! It's pricey, but if the ultimate goal is to play on a LCD, then there are no real other alternatives.. A CRT s a much cheaper option, usually free these days.
