Original controllers and getting input lag to the absolute bare minimum is what this console is all about for me. Yes you can USB adapter on a PC, but that introduces additional lag.

That, and when I have to put a physical cartridge in I am significantly more likely to actually spend time completing a game. With a huge list of ROM's to scroll through, I just hop around loading up game after game and I find myself never really investing in anything because I have instant access to everything. I know a lot of people who feel the same about their Steam library actually.

Finally, while emulators are cool to us nerds, the commonfolk still love seeing a Dr. Mario, or MegaMan cartridge sitting in a console to bring back all the old feels. I love leaving random carts inside the console, prominently displayed on top of my entertainment center, as conversation pieces when I have people over.

I understand emulators, and have no qualms with people who use them. But for a few idiots like myself, dropping $180 on EarthBound to play a physical cartridge still is meaningful, even if I'm technically emulating it in the end.

Since Ack was asking me about it, here are some updated videos of other Retroarch/liberato cores active on the Retron 5:
PSX via PSCX:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=97eNhmrSFc8

Arcade via FinalBurnAlpha:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wwA4HPdP_OU

If you look through his videos you can see tons of other emulators.

Don's got that right there. USB adapters for like a SNES pad will add minute levels of lag that could add up (like playing on an Ouya, etc.) The nice thing with the R5 is it doesn't introduce lag if you use a real controller, and the only lag you have is what your personal TV dooms you too whatever you got jacked into it.

I too have had that same problem with 'real games' versus using an everdrive or another rom driven experience that ends up being free. I see no value, I can load up whatever, whenever and have zero attachment. I buy a game I put money into it, I will attempt to get my value if not finish it, with a ROM or ROMS on a copier cart I get all ADHD and win at nothing but having unused bulk storage.

And he's right, high knowing game people (or even game snob collectors) may not like this or downright hate what it does, but for most people who grew up with the stuff and see it will love this as they can have that fun again with a modern device that'll do things right. The old ones it really up to the TV how good/bad it will convert/display things. I too like and will use emulators, have for nearly 20 years, but they're not a replacement, just an assistant.

Fastbilly -- That's nuts. I gave up watching all the baseless whining against the system and people talking about what else might work. I had no idea PSX got fired up on there or FB Alpha either. Damn...arcade, must resist temptation to load up SD card.

Basically makes the thing into it's own everdrive if you're not careful now that people have made it possible...though I see almost no point since even though emulation on games the dev doesn't get any money off may be sorta legal I'd rather own the game physically if I'm going to play it since like tanooki I'd go adhd on it and not complete it(and I'm bad enough without help on that matter).

Edit: only problem I still have with R5 is the fact there's not a portable similar to it that has the translation patches availible. I would LOVE to take some of these portable if I had the chance on the imports since without help I'm not able to even use the supaboy :-\

Is Double Dragon (the first one) NES version incompatible with this console? I haven't updated in awhile, but I will if this was fixed.

I am getting the "unable dump ROM" error.

My copy works fine. I've run into a couple of games that the Retron seems very sensitive about, but others have reported work fine. In my case, I had minty versions of Snake Rattle N Roll and Adventures of Tom Sawyer that refused to play.

I rebought a different SRNR that works fine. Haven't managed to find another cheap copy of Tom Sawyer yet though. It's probably a case of your machine being finnicky with your specific copy of DD rather than a firmware issue.

My Double Dragon works fine too. Have you tried it in a real console to see if the problem isn't the cartridge?

I had a copy of Shadow Blasters on Genesis that wouldn't dump, turned out the cartridge itself was dead.

No...I don't have an original NES anymore. :(

Hmm any idea what "Failure to dump ROM" error could be related to? Other than a faulty cart? I've cleaned the pins and it "looks" fine.

It means what it says, it can't read the cart for whatever reason, but it's too dumb to know why so that's all you're told.

Yeah...cart is probably toast.

Bummer.
