Hey guys, anyone know where I could get my hands on one of the four wire mod chips? I found a site that sells the Region Free BIOS, but I don't know that I'm confident enough in my soldering skills to risk a system like that.
I just want to be able to play my Japanese DC games again without worrying about a boot disc that only works part of the time.

A JP dreamcast is cheaper than a US dreamcast and a mod-chip. This wasn't always the case - but it is now.

Ah okay. I didn't realize that was the case. But I should've when my previous searches turned up fruitless. I went ahead and pulled the trigger on the BIOS.. it was only 8 bucks.
I have a DC mobo that I've done the region change on by soldering a wire to one of the pins and the other side to a +5v or something like that. I used to use that all the time in my main system since US games play nicer with boot discs, or at least they have in my experience.

i totally got a guy on SHMUPs to chip mine/change the battery/mod my VGA box for RGB use as well, and it wasn't bad but took him a while to locate said chips
Re: Dreamcast Mod Chip?
I heard about them many years ago but at the time it was only possible to get a compatable year console and shelf the incompatible hardware. I figured they were long gone even then - extinct relic of a bygone era!
