NES or some arcades, Donkey Kong or Pacman probably.
I didn't get to grow up with decent computers or PC games much. Starcraft and Jedi Knight were about it haha.

So many people hate the text parsers but I thought they were amazing at the time. I still think I may actually like them more than point-and-click since they force you think more creatively. The Sierra adventure titles were some of my first experiences with DOS.BogusMeatFactory wrote:We had the Atari 2600 a year before we got our Apple IIGS, so not very long. My brothers and I never really got into gaming hardcore until the computer was involved though. Having a text parser in adventure games blew our minds and we became absolutely obsessed from there.
The first time I played Space Quest:

That is the thing, when text is involved, the amount of detail and actions you can observe and do are as limited as the time they took to incorporate the vocabulary. Early parser based adventure games were somewhat rudimentary, but they started to really evolve into some excellent stuff around the the late 80's early 90's with games like Space Quest 3 and Quest for Glory 2. That is why I gravitate to modern text based adventure games because there are some that are genuinely delightful and filled with great writing and narrative.Gunstar Green wrote:So many people hate the text parsers but I thought they were amazing at the time. Re: What was the first game you remember playing?
I remember and grew up in the golden age of Lucas Arts and Sierra adventure games. I loved a great many of them including Space Quest. But over time the western development in that genre really fell apart (Myst was the catalyst). These days we still get some nice new adventure games that end up on sites like GOG. But to be completely honest, the best adventure games these days are made in Japan. Stuff like the Phoenix Wright series, Danganronpa series, everything CiNG's ever done, Ghost Trick, and even the Professor Layton series are very high quality and fun endeavors. If you want truly good and innovative adventure games, Japan has been the go to source for the past ten years at least.

I'm pretty sure my first was either Pac-Man or Donkey Kong for Atari 2600. It was at a daycare I used to go to. I remember when it was naptime, I would ask to skip the nap so I could play.

Had Apple IIGS first, then Game Boy, then SNES, never had a NES.Key-Glyph wrote:Out of curiosity, did most of you have computers in your household before you had consoles, or was it the other way around?
I'd have to check with my mother, but I'm almost positive we had the NES before we bought our pre-owned Apple IIe.

Contra on the NES for me.
It's time to kick a$$ and chew bubble gum...and I'm all out of gum.
Re: What was the first game you remember playing?
It was either Zelda, Batman, or Dick Tracey for the NES. Also had Zelda II, Super Mario/Duck Hunt, and a few others that I can't remember very well. Not really sure which came first though I was only 2

The oldest memory is of me watching the intro to Soul Calibur on the Dreamcast. I was two years old, if I remember correctly. My mom probably hates that game because I made her play it with me all the time.
