Yeah, but in a typical FPS you'd just lose health and walk on. But in ARMA if your character actually breaks their leg (or both legs) this physical impediment is represented tangibly by the avatar. As in, you walk very slowly (limping with one broken leg) or you can only crawl on your belly (both legs broke). That's the ARMA difference. (I have crawled away from a tank column before and hid in the forest while radioing for a medic team to come evac me. That was after the percussive blast of a tank round shattered my legs.)MrPopo wrote:Doesn't that also describe nearly every ladder in an FPS ever?fastbilly1 wrote: But after I broke my legs climbing down a ladder three times, I gave up on it for awhile.

PLAY KING'S FIELD.

I was going to say something like "yeah nearly every fall in an FPS is harmful in some way, especially on ladders" but I see it's been covered. I'd use Ack's "catch the ladder" trick on Far Cry a lot. (also noted: Doom 3's fall-damage system.)
Reminds me a bit of Deus Ex with the damage that your arms and legs can also sustain. You walk slower with a bum leg.
But yeah those ARMA games, maybe after I get some non-real stuff out of the way first
Although I've heard of Operation Flashpoint, I'll check out that link.

I no longer have the GRAW disc to install so I can't compare it to its sequel. It's unfortunate their neither game has a sandbox editor akin to Arma's. GRAW2 has an editor but it's too barebones.
You know what's awesome? Going against armour in those games as infantry. Forget about running like a maniac planting C4 on a tank's blind spot

Especially considering tank columns always have their own infantry deployable APCs flanking them.Pulsar_t wrote:You know what's awesome? Going against armour in those games as infantry. Forget about running like a maniac planting C4 on a tank's blind spot

My experiences on Mission 7 of GRAW, now behind tag because the story gets thicker.

Ha ha, I told you man, and I wasn't kidding, beating GRAW on PC was the hardest FPS I've ever finished. And I've been into the genre since Wolfenstein 3D, so you could say I've got a frame of reference.ExedExes wrote:Dammit GRIN. This will probably be the greatest achievement in FPS, completing this.[/spoiler]
Good news is, you've only got 4 missions left. Lone wolf missions aren't too bad because you aren't dealing with dipshit friendly AI, bad news is, those last 3 missions... yeah, looking forward to reading your war journals on those. Especially how you handle the final mission.
YOU CAN DO IT SOLDIER
PLAY KING'S FIELD.

GRAW update!
Next mission - by yourself, take out radio tower.
After a few tries just going slowly to take all enemies out. I just went with the run like hell strategy. Effective! There's enough buildings and cover. Got to the first checkpoint that way.
Also found an alternate way to get to the tower, to watch the whole thing fall. Tank, no problem. Took the ZEUS-MPAR. I finished much faster just avoiding a whole lot of trouble.
Thankfully, the drone was available and the eye in the sky was useful in such an urban setting. Plus many empty warehouses to hide in.
3 missions to go. I can see the end!

You are now at the point where I consider the "real" game to begin.ExedExes wrote:3 missions to go. I can see the end!
Here's some inspirational quotes to see you through:
"Untutored courage is useless in the face of educated bullets." -George S. Patton
"Victorious warriors win first and then go to war, while defeated warriors go to war first and then seek to win." -Sun Tzu
"If you're going through hell, keep going." -Winston Churchill
Don't stop till that GRIN is frowning!
